I like the 197, if buying a new car id definitely consider a 197 cup. However, i prefer the 1*2 shape, and the fact my 172 Cup with 30k miles cost me 8k less than a brand new 197 :)

oh so its built into the alternator, and I dont have a tensioner on the cup as I dont have aircon? ...any guide on how to tighten the belt? or do i just have to buy a new belt?

In a year or so I wanna move out, so Ill be selling the 172 Cup and getting a Saxo VTR (late model) so dirt cheap insurance, running costs, maintenence and road tax. Goodbye Decent 16v power :( I might consider another VTS but road tax on these is set to be a joke!

Hi, my Clio 172 Cup is on 31,000 miles. The aux belt when I start the car lets out a squeak sometimes (at max 1.5 seconds long) ..The belt itself looks in good nick. Im going to get it changed in 5k miles, I just wondered, is it easy to tighten the belt / can it be tightened? ....someone...

19 1yrs ncb 172 cup £1650 fully comp. Should be 1300 quid 2 yrs ncb at 20.

shouldnt I change the tensioner as well as the belt though?

changing the aux belt is a 20 minute job? is there a guide, as if its 20 mins, screw paying Renault £395 to change it!

If the 197 is so good, why are all these magazines giving reviews that pretty much sum up "meh, its a nice car, but its nothing amazing"? nothing personal or whatever to the 197 owners on this site, just wonder?

I wish I could comment, all I know is, I used to drive a Saxo VTS, now I drive a 172 cup. Which is supposed to be a raw feel car, and I have more luxuries and poke than my Saxo. :P Winning combo tbh.

Okay, cheers guys, was just wondering as Im dead impressed with standard brakes on my cup anyways (have brembo rotors and some slightly better pads which i may change to CL pads)

Now the brakes on my 172 Cup are generally quite good, but I have a small amount of Cash to play with, do people think me upgrading to HiSpecs is worthwhile? I mean....300mm brakes, 4 pot callipers...they do look a wee bit sexy!

yeah but, arent I meant to put a jack and padding under my backbox and start to jack it up so it bends the mount thats connected to my backbox?

Okay, ty mate, so cable tie it tightly. I think the problem is, the car was fitted with the exhaust a month ago? Perhaps i need to reshape the mount?

Was looking @ selling my 172 cups pre-curbed turini's and buying a set of Anthracite Turini's with tires brand new. Any idea on how much a set of Turinis are worth in fair condition from a 172 Cup? Tyres are Eagle F1s with fair amounts of tread. ...Also, can I still rock the renault diamond...

My exhaust hangs too low below the bumper, bought the car like this, anyone got a guide and a list of what I need to buy/do to make the exhaust sit up in the bumper more.
