Yeah your right, only problem i found was that with the washers fitted i had more knocking when the the front suspension was unsprung. I think the normal 'kocking on full lock' was improved but i couldnt put up with the unsprung knocking i was getting over bumps.
While you have your sleeves out could you measure one for me please as i lost the dimensions and mine are back in the car? Will need full dimensions of the whole thing.
Hmmm, i cant remember exactly where the washer goes tbh, i only did it once quickly and didnt like it. I know that some people have had to remove the washer fix in order to pass an MOT as it can cause more play as the top rubber cap isnt being allowed to scew down tightly to the turrets. So its...
I think the back may take longer than the front to settle. Fitted sportlines to my Cup a week a go now and the back has only just started to come down.
Cheers for all the positive replys guys!
Theres no thread on there mate? :S
Dont have a drawing as i just made sure the important bits were the right size and in the right place (ie: the slot in the shaft and the cable hook) and just made it up as i went along. It only takes 2mins to...
Turned the diameters and o-ring groove and drilled the hole down the middle in a lathe, and milled the slot and the cable hook in milling machine. I'm a machinist by trade, which helps :)
Knocked this up in my lunch break yesterday, only had 30mins so its not perfect. No performance gain at all just purely the product of boredom.
Old lever...
Old vs New...
Cable hook & O-ring...
New lever back in...
And with gear knob (temp gear knob, will make my own soon )...
My sleeve ended up with an overall length of 16.40mm, i dont know if that'll be the same for you so may be worth taking a small amount off at a time untill you get a nice fit but still allow the bearing to move.
Cheers guys, where might i find the right foam hand pads? Dont mean to sound stupid, but as said i'm new to this and dont want to use the wrong thing and cover my car in swirls.
New to all this polishing and waxing, what should i be applying it with? seem this in Halfords, any good?
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_201965_langId_-1_categoryId_123044
Should i be using one for polish and one for wax? And...
The shim slides over the existing sleeve to remove left right forward and backward play and shortening the sleeve removes up and down play, if that makes sense. Its hard to explain, but so simple. If i can get some made up they'll be a one piece design so there wont be any nedd for a shim and...
I wont be on a late shift again untill the week starting on the 23rd june, but when i am i'll do my best to knock up a few sets so people can try them out. My only concern is that what fits my top mounts 'may' not fit somone elses due to the fact Renault may have been inconsistant with respect...
Will do mate, will post back in this thread as and when i have some made (should be titanium too). You will have to remove the whole damper to get the top mount off, it only takes 5mins to whip the damper off (i used Fubars guide http://www.fubarnet.com/fitting_springs.html) really is juat a...
Will get a drawing made up for 'one-piece' modified sleeves, then i'll see if i can knock some up. Only get a chance every 2 weeks as i work alternate shifts and do all my car stuff on late shift.
Excuse the pics (my phone has decided it dosnt auto focus anymore), but heres what i did...
New shim (looks rusty but its not, its stainless)...
Random scribblings...
Shim fitted to rubber...
Existing sleeve (shortened)...
lol, yeah it would have been easier to machine a whole new sleeve to fit the rubber rather than a shim for the sleeve as it were, but i was just messing with ideas when i made the shims and it worked so i left it, for now anyway :)
The only issue with that is i made mine to fit my actual mounts and going by Renaults lack of a tolerance system i dont know if everyone will benefit from my exact measurements. I left my sketch at work but i'll get it later and post dimensions anyway.
A quick trip around the block and no knocking at all :) It seems that 'my' knocking was caused by play in the top mount assembly itself and not by the mounts rubbing/knocking on the car (ie Freds washer fix) Happy days! Will add some pics of what ive done later on for anyone whos interested.
