My wife has a 2001 Rav4 that we have owned since it was a year old. The only thing that has gone wrong in over 7 years is the battery died. That is reliable. Love my clio but am sure that the RAV will outlast it!!!
I spoke to Fred yesterday who gave me the lowdown. I also spoke to my mechanic last night who without any prompting said exactly the same as Fred. So the plan is if Renault won't replace the callipers under warranty, I will pick the car up and buy the brake pads and locator pins and get my...
A little more.
Just spoken to my mechanic who I have used for years (as the car is still under warranty I wanted all work to be done through Renault) and he has confirmed all that you have said about skimming the pads etc. but also that he can repair the callipers.
I will let you know if I...
Here is a bit more info from my conversations. Firstly, I am well aware of the ratio of front braking to rear. I am not a mechanic so cannot fix the car myself but I do have a good understanding of how it works hence my surprise at the rear pads being replaced before the fronts.
The brake...
Judging from what you have written, your brakes feel just like mine (see brembo calliper thread) so I suspect that the callipers have seized. Seems to be a common thing on RS Clios.
I am no mechanic though.
I said when I test drove the car that I didn't like the feel of the brakes. The rest of the car is mint, it is still covered under warranty and I suspect that the previous owner probably didn't know how bad they were.
I am not a mechanic and have gone on the advice of the dealer and conversations with other members here. A couple of points to note.
The car has done 38,000 on the first set of front pads. There is also still life left in the pads. The rear pads have been changed at the last service.
I have...
Just spoken to the garage again and explained what you had said. The inner pistons have completely seized and therefore most of the braking has been done using the rear brakes!!!
Car has been serviced at correct intervals. Just have to wait until Monday!!!
Can't even pin it on Renault as its a bought in part!!! Really don't want to be one of the horror stories here:(
Dropped my car of at Theoco today for front pads. Told them about the feel of the brakes and said that I think that the calipers have seized. Just been called back by dealer to say calipers have seized and they need replacing. They are £315 each!!!!
They are going to check with Renault on...
I have been listening to my rattle and reckon that if I door panel off I probably wouldn't find it as it could be something tiny causing the problem. That's why I was thinking of just taking the speaker cover off and investigating from there. If you find out that the speaker cover can come off...
I know you have had a bad experience but if everything is sorted and you love the car, why are you selling it? What would you get instead.
It really does seem to be that you get a good or a bad car from Renault.
I have rattles in both of my doors. The noise comes from around where the speaker housing is and although annoying (especially from the passenger door) is not the end of the world.... It is probably such a small movement that it will be hard to sort out.
Questions:
1) Does anyone else have...
They were the nuts. Definately not for the feint hearted. Thing was that crap drivers only ever went to one meet so there was trust there as the regulars all knew each other.
Fancy doing it on this forum and there seems to be a few members around the area. Should really wait until spring next...
Had mine a couple of weeks and love it. It has a couple of small rattles that I am learning to live with...character building aparantly and the build quality is miles better than the previous Clio. The build quality will also be every bit as good or better than your Astra, and a lot more fun...
Moved on to the GT-R...very nice.
Called Jaz a couple of weeks back now I am back in something fun. No more meets at Hatfield :dapprove::dapprove:. It is probably for the better as sh1t would have happened in the end.
Small world.
Don't love the 200 front end but it is growing on me from just the right angles. Prefer my 197 all day long and tomorrow.
However, the GT looks MUCH WORSE than the 200 front end. My first thought for that massive grille was that someone left an oven door open and then thought hmmmm that would...
Used to have 'Actually, I do own the road!' on my first car but that was almost 25 years ago. Not had another since!!!!
Got the Cliosport sticker in my rear window at the top :D
