Judging from what you have written, your brakes feel just like mine (see brembo calliper thread) so I suspect that the callipers have seized. Seems to be a common thing on RS Clios. I am no mechanic though.

Most, not all, of the braking is done on the rears.

I said when I test drove the car that I didn't like the feel of the brakes. The rest of the car is mint, it is still covered under warranty and I suspect that the previous owner probably didn't know how bad they were.

Just spoken to the garage again and explained what you had said. The inner pistons have completely seized and therefore most of the braking has been done using the rear brakes!!!
