Update …… I have the recon head back from Rochdale motors ….. looks good! ….. new valves, oil seals and cam followers + skim and clean for 260 quid delivery and pick-up included!!! ….. now I have a stack of kit - aux & cam belt kits incl.pulleys, VVT cog, gasket set, camshaft seals, head bolts...
Hello
I can see that this thread is rather old .... but maybe some of you are still online ..... few more grey hairs perhaps ;)
I see that you mention the genuine Renault tool to lock the two cams together (right side) but nothing about the other tool to lock the camshaft pulleys and yet you...
I'm interested :) … can you tell me about it …. like what is the history ?? mileage, year, why it's available, last time it was running OK ? & how much incl. shipping ??
those prices are from eurocarparts.co.uk !!!!
true I can save a bit here and there … but always worried about consequences of something being too cheap esp. head bolts, cam belts pulleys etc
in fact eurocarparts.fr is cheaper!!!!
labour, machine shop time and second hand ARE expensive though ……...
parts bill …..
aux + cam belt + all pulleys and tensioners ~300
dephaser inlet cam pulley ~200
gaskets & head bolts & spark plugs 200
plastic cover for cam belt ~50 (busted when cam belt went)
the recon head 260
tools to set & block the cams ~100
misc 'stuff' 100 (new oil, sealant, angle...
Hi Bloke,
looked at that too ….. Rochdale Engines do some nice recon heads for 190 quid …. thought I had it sorted … but there are so many variations on this F4R engine it's very easy to get it wrong …… check all the photos you like … there is always some doubts … anyways I've not found one...
Hello ..... is this the longest thread ever or what ....
I am going down the DIY head rebuild path .... don't have the time ... but don't have the money either ;)
concerning cam locking tools ... isn't there a second hand market ????
==> does anyone have some to sell ???
or for a once every...
Andyman,
that has been considered ..... thing is they are rather like rocking horse manure ..... near me anyways
and when I do see them they from 750-2500E ....... to which you still need to add new cam belt/aux belt kits....
The more serious option is to chuck the whole car and get another one...
Hello peeps,
So I have a 2005 clio 182 that has been running problem free for 4 years - just regular oil and filter changes (DIY) and last year into a pro for cam/aux belt changes.
14 mths later the aux belt goes while over-taking up a hill (so flat out) ... with it goes the cam-belt and all the...
Hi
I am just starting down this road ….. after an aux belt followed by cam belt failure at 7000rpm
so all 16 valves are bent but it seems that the head and bottom end are still OK
garage quoted me 2600euros !!!
and I can't chuck that kind of money into a 2005 clio …. even if it a nice...
I have a clio 182 cup and thanks to the twin exhaust there is no room for a spare wheel and yet the car still has a car jacking kit..... what is the point ??? why not just leave it in the garage ???
2nd disc went on today.... no problems getting the old one off, perhaps due to 24hrs of WD40 or perhaps it was never going to be a problem, who knows.... it's done:clap:
but.....
I went onto try changing the brake fluid and got air into the system:dead:.... it took the whole 500ml bottle + all...
Phate : I had a quote from a Renault main dealer; 300E for discs/bearings/abs ring + pads + fitting, which is a good deal, if you compare with main dealer prices for just the parts but you can get the parts much cheaper and do it yourself for less than half that... as I am!!;)
I got my discs...
Matt e : 150nm.... then a bit more ..... obviously I can't know if I got to 175nm
what I can say is that one of them came off WITHOUT reaching 150nm !!
I recon it'll be OK... it not as critical as bolting down a cylinder head... but then again you don't want a wheel going walkabout do you...
Answering my own question concerning disc alignment....... in this case, since the discs include the wheel bearings there is nothing you can do to adjust the alignment anyway...... except remove them and reassemble and hope you get a better fit..... So I conclude that it is not something to...
PANIC over ..... at least on the drivers side;) ..... the time it took me to make the posting allowed the WD40 to do it's work and a subsequent clout with the hammer got it moving..... so old off and new one on ..... I'll do the other side tomorrow... but have already got the WD40 working:cool...
Hmmmmm..... so it can be 'ard......... you mean a puller with three big arms to grab the outside of the disc ??
So I've not missed anything then...... and it should come off it I hit it hard enough :banghead:
I'm ~900Km south of Dover so I guess that's a bit far ;)
OK... it's time to PANIC!
I've got the brake pads & calipre off without any real issues.... and the 30mm hub/bearing/disc nut is off too..... the disc wobbles making me think that the bearing is knackered but the disc aint coming off..... I've tried leaving with a 2ft tyre lever and a 4lb...
Thank you for the comments, I will bear that in mind when/if I ever change the front discs...... the rear ones I have are in a box covered with the words "Group Renault - original parts" so I take that to imply OEM....
