an oxygen sensor on all renaults uses the same principle and the same operating ranges.im sure many of the models do use the same sensor.why you having trouble getting one?
i like my hillpower ik kit.sounds good and seems to have made a bit of an improvement as well.its a good comprimise,you get the noise and the filter is sheilded from the heat.go on get it you know you want to.

how old clio? really old clios you will have to remove the fuel tank as there is only a access hole in the floor for the sender unit but not the pump.clios with combined sender unit/fuel pump unit you just change it through an access hole in the floor under the rear seats.undo the large...
from the picture the oil looks like its coming from the gearbox casing joint or a crack in a casing(cant see enough on the pic).the selector on the left of the top picture doesnt look particually wet from oil.
later phase 2 clio 2s have electric pas apart from models like the 172 which still have the fluid type system.clio 2 phase 1 and early phase 2 had fluid pas.the only model which has had electric pas on them all is the clio 2 phase 2 1.2 16v models.

play in tracks arms or the steering rack(track arms the most commen).
suspension incorrectly set
play in steering column
i would suggest getting a mechanic to have a look if your unsure what to look at.
other than checking the gaitors there isnt really anything you can check other than listen to the noise and see if it appears to be from the shafts.run it up on axle stands so you can get a good look/listen at it.
you might need the bumper off on a mk1 172.you normally just remove the grill on clio 2 mk1 but the 172 has that extra bit on the bumper so you may need to take the bumper off.
