If you have difficulty moving the stick far enough forward, you can chop a bit off the selector arm which brings the gearstick back a bit. I've not done it so I can't remember how much needs to come off, but it's worth asking around should you want to do it.
Follow the orange and yellow wire in behind the airbox and you'll find the motor eventually. It's held in with two bolts.
The recirc flap is like a big letterbox, I'm not sure you've photo'ed it there, but you can reach it through the big hole in the back of the airbox.

There's a fairly good model kicking around from Richard Burns Rally. Not completely road standard but not a S1600. I'd imagine it wouldn't be too hard to get it looking more standard by removing the roof scoop, filling the holes in the bumper (if they exist? I can't remember. I'll look later)...
