I am willing to bet that it would never RR at 215 BHp
His maths probably works something like this:
K&N induction kit +15hp
barry exhaust and decat +15hp
172 (hes not aware it's PS) +15 +15 = 215bhp
I very much doubt it has cams or throttle bodies.
both required to see the power figure stated
IMO it's not about the cost hassle. I've got an "iron in the fire" so to speak and it's only half because I want the car at the end. The other half is the satisfaction of having built the thing. If it's never been done before, the rewards are only better. A 250 bhp meggy engined 197 would be the...
ditto that. It's not going to scrub unless they are not setup properly or the arch lining is where it shouldnt be.
keep an eye on the condition of the scrubbing tyre too
FUGLY
If you line up clios starting at MK1 all the way to current MK3s you'll notice the bonnet and roof line get higher and higher as they get newer.
I reckon the centre of gravity has to be getting higher. Cars are getting worse :(
gearboxes are made of cake and buscuits.
Coilpacks are typical french electronics.
If you drove them like a company car then they really wouldnt last long.
But they are a good laugh. I suppose they arent tooooooo bad. I've been most annoyed with the gearboxes tbh
I would say you'd be lucky to get 230 out of a 197 on ITBs.
A meggy engine is better, but if your going that far......why not go a step further and buy a 20v turbo? you need the AGU block preferably from a MK4 gti or A3, then fit yourself the audi TT turbo setup and shes good for 275 bhp, 320 on...
iirc the issue with a 225 into a 172 was the gearbox. The 172 gearbox won't fit the 225 engine. So I don't know how big the MK3 engine bay is. Maybe it's an option.
Engines are not that expensive in the grand scheme of things. more than F4Rs yes.
fred has played with a meggy engine
