i think this is the common fault where a cheap and tiny cog comes adrift/broken and it's several hours labour to fix becuase it's deep deep inside the dash
hmmm. Not sure tbh mate. track rod end is easy enough, but on newer cars. My mk1 track rods are stiff as they come, wont budge an inch.
new rack?
it's only 4 bolts and the pinch bolt iirc. Shouldnt be too hard on the 1.2 and iirc it's a manual rack so there are loads about

Just put a new one in mine (with a 182 manifold ;)) and so far am noticing slight increase in MPG. Although idle is not really any better
they are mega mega expensive from renault. By the time you have forked £150 for the belt kit and then £200-£250 ish for the locking tools (i remember reading on here somewhere) You may as well pay the £450 odd for a garage to do it.

Yeah. Don't know what i was winging about really. Just took the shaft out, poped the gaitor on, then did the circlip thingy up by pressing it together with 2 flatheads. easy as you like!
Off to buy G box oil now (lift from mum :) lol)
182 manifold fitting guide coming today or tommorrow. Grey...
does the driveshaft have to come out to get the inboard gaitor back on the bearing? If it does im going to be upset
can i just use a jubilee clip instead of the factory fitted ren ones

I was just finishing the job and trying to get my lower ball joints bolted to the wishbone.........then the passenger side inboard driveshaft gator poped off and i lost all my gearbox...
Steering rack pinch bolt.
I've slackened the nut. But the bolt head on the other side seems to be completely round (i think)
Does the pinch bolt need to be removed or slackened to separate column and rack?
my trolley jack does have a good surface area on it and a rubber pad
has anyone tried the subframe at the front basically under the rad?
and would it be such a crime to jack it off the sump??
I havent had my 172 for long but I hate jacking it up. There doesent seem to be a good central jacking point to stick a trolley jack under, so i seem to have to do it one side at a time.
