Bought a mint ph1 in July 2012 and so far it's been rock solid, all it's cost me was £55 for a new lambda sensor to get it through MOT.
I used to own a R5 Turbo... now that was a different story!
Yeah but then again all you guys down London probably earn £500 a day in the city.. or at least earn 40% more doing the equivelant job... all relative ;)
I've owned both.. current ride is a ph1, and back in 2003 I bought a cup new... very similar in performance, just a different flavour really.. nothing much between them to be fair.. prefer the ph1 for more subtle and understated looks more than anything but that's just a personal choice.
Last year paid £330 fully comp for my ph1 172 which I thought was expensive... this year it's £180.. (34 with 11yrs ncb, no points/accidents)..
Have premiums reduced this year or something?? Nearly half as cheap.
Ok.. decided to put together my entire car CV with some pics... enjoy.. share yours?
1996 - pass test, Metro 1.0L 5 door... lasted about 9 months before someone crashed into the side of me and wrote it off.
1997 - aged 18 I got a Vauxhall Nova GTE 1.6 ... big upgrade and a bit more street...
Re: My PH1 172
Yep true.. but when you consider Phase 1's stopped in 2001, that's at least 12 years old.. so assume half that figure have now been written off, ~700 left... then assume roughly half of those are in a bad way.. ~350 ... that's not a great supply to a population over over 60...
Re: My PH1 172
I own a mint ph1 too.. I bought it because in my view it's the best / retro of all the cliosports.. plus it's design is almost a bit understated, like not many people instantly know what's under the bonnet.. my view is that just like the R5 Turbos, a mint one will only go UP in...
Here's my mint ph1 with full Renault service history, I feel so lucky to own her! Never skips a beat and drives like a new car despite being 13yrs old :).. She's my daily commuter, love the retro feel.. when she finally gives up I'll probably pay for a full engine rebuild with a turbo...
Cheers guys - to update on this, I bought a new pre-cat lambda sensor from Eurocarparts (Bosch, £55)... had it fitted by my local garage and bingo, emissions completely sorted!
Re: ABS & SERV lights on, MOT failed, can't clear it with the computer.. advice pleas
Just to update my own thread here (in case anyone searches the same problem in the future)... I fixed the ABS + SERV light myself, the code was suggesting an open circuit on the passenger side rear ABS... so I...
Thanks mate I'll check them out! Don't suppose you know if they have a rolling road, or a decent rolling road around our way? I'm wanting to get a basic checkup/tune to see my car is running at its best.
My local garage are useless, dignose faults and can't be bothered to check the problem out properly wanting to just replace bits as they go along with an open chequebook.
Where is the best place in the Newcastle area to take my phase1 172?..
In particular ABS fault light on dash...
Personal...
Renault only? wtf.. Eurocarpars list them too but they are either £39 or £89 on their site (with no explanation of the difference)...
Ok what about this then? Anyone know if the phase1 and phase2 are the same...
£27 delivered.. can this be right? I need the rear left side (so passenger side) ABS sensor.. I've seen some people on here quoting like £150.. just wanna get opinions before I order one.
Cheers...
Cheers for the reply.. hmm, well I've got ABS and SERV light on the dash.. have to suspect it's ABS?..
Also, could the DF006 code (knock sensor) be a result of the bad o2 sensor causing incorrect fuelling?...
Got the following printout from my local garage as it's failed MOT..
DF006: Knock sensor circuit, open circuit or short circuit
DF057: Upstream oxygen sensor circuit, open circuit or short circuit
7G: Rear left hand wheel speed sensor circuit
In particular would the upstream oxygen sensor...
Re: ABS & SERV lights on, MOT failed, can't clear it with the computer.. advice pleas
Cheers will do, what does the ring look like could someone help describe what to look for? How is it fixed, is it part of the brake disk or something?
Cheers!
Ok, got the ABS and SERV lights on the dash.. it's just failed MOT for this.
Guy in the garage says the computer check is indicating a problem with the passenger side REAR wheel.. however he's tried clearing the codes off the ECU but the lights won't go out.
He says he then did a test where he...
Fast idle test #1
CO 5.91%
HC 328ppm
Lambda 0.84
FAIL
Fast idle test #2
CO 5.83%
HC 297ppm
Lambda 0.84
FAIL
Normal idle test
CO 0.17%
PASS
Guy at the garage said he'd got the engine up to running temp etc.. I reckon it's probably the lambda sensor too..
Ok from what I've been reading, lambda sensors last between 30-50k miles and a low reading would cause the engine to run rich putting CO and HC levels through the roof (which appears to be the case here for me)...
Wonder if it's worth splashing £55 on a new sensor then and asking the garage to...
