Pretty much this. If i was relying on a piece of plastic to support my wheels, i'd be very worried.
A mate of mine broke a spigot ring on his vxr, so we just bolted it on without it. Bit of a pain to do but it was fine for 1000's of miles until he could be bothered to replace it.
9 times out of 10 it has always been an injector for me.
Easy to test, just pull the power connector off each injector one at a time. If the engine note doesn't get any worse, that's your one.
Yeah they should be spot on. It's usually a sign of them not working properly if they don't feel right.
Usually a sticking piston.
Check the seals @K_McDermott and make sure all the pistons move out when you press the pedal.
