1.8. UK. Unfortunately it has no diff. I wanted an Eunos but insurance didn't like it. I'm keeping an eye out for a Torsen diff for it when one comes up cheap second hand. I do feel it misses the diff especially at low speeds when it will spin the inside wheel up.
Looks great that mate. Really nice. Its a decent engine the TCE, not very quick but its a nice engine to use, a decent amount of torque right through the rev range.
Congratulations on great post and being a complete idiot. He's 19 and driving a 197 70-65 years ago they had lads going out at 18 in spitfires fighting the germans and now in 2010 he's definitely going to crash and die in a Clio 197 because he's 19..........................
Well i've had the 5 about a month now so thought its about time to get a few pics up. The NW lot have already seen it but thought the rest may like a look.

I'm loving the car, mods on it are the wheels and a front strut...
Nice car that mate. A lot more grown up than a 1*2. A mate of mine had one of these, my 172 was far quicker but his st170 was a lot more solid and a better everyday car. Some decent upgrades available for the duratec engine too.
Typical culture in modern times. My mum had somebody run into her car at the lights a few months ago. They pulled over she got out, he apologised, there was no damage so she left it. That's how it should be. I've had two personal injury claims from when I was knocked off my moped's both of which...
Well I'm not very well up on the parts etc but if you don't do the 172 front suspension conversion you'll just have a non sport suspension setup designed for 110bhp with a 225bhp engine in it, which will probably end up at 260bhp after a map.
When I upgraded from 1.2 to 172 I instantly noted...
I'd buy the 1.4. It has a better standard suspension setup and is not painfully slow unlike the 1.2, just my $2 but I can't stand engines that are absolutely gutless.
Some of the others will know the exact reason the kicks there, I can't remember it word for word.
A remap alone should remove the 5k kick, the matched inlets just make it smoother still. I personally always liked the kick at 5k as it gave the engine character, for driveability though its...
No its nothing to do with the VVT. All the VVT is for is to reduce idle emission's iirc. The engine just naturally peaks in performance at 5k+ rpm, hence the 5k kick it gives. Mods such as remap and matched inlets can completely smooth this kick out.
Ignore the mileage mate. The most important thing is condition and service history.
Make sure the cam/aux belts have been done by a reputable specialist, it is absolutely essential on these cars.
Re: My new uber camp automobile
Love it Seb. Re: the price, where are people finding these dirt cheap mx5's. I had a good look around and yeah you could get a shitter for £1300 but good ones where like £2000 sort of money.
To be fair its a decent point. Tuning a Clio is not good value for money, yes most of the time people itb/turbo/sc their clio's then sell them months later. However if somebody knows this and still wants to do it then we may as well get behind them and give them advice.
To be honest whether its a 1.2 or 2.0 it will make no difference in this weather as you can't drive any faster in one than the other safely. They're both fwd cars with as near as dammit the same sized tyres and they're basically the same car. I moved from 1.2 to a 172 last winter, the issue is...
+1 well a ph1 172 but still same thing.
Its about attitude though, this guy clearly had the wrong one. Saying that i'm glad he was ok. Fortunately he will ,hopefully, have learnt a lesson without damaging his own/anybody else's life.
Clio's hold up bloody well in accidents though to be fair.
