As said the aux belt runs the water pump, but it all depends on how bad the pump is leaking as coolant can contaminate rubber - IMO i'd get it checked but do the aux belt and water pump now, and budget the belts and dephaser at a later date
It is definately worth travelling for the right car - A days travel for what could be a long term car is fine, but you need to have your wits about you and ask the seller the right questions - get pictures sent over if needs be, and make sure you get a realistic idea of what the car will be...
To be honest, there isn't a huge amount you can do without spending a huge amount of money, after you budget in the increased cost of insurance with modifications.
Removing weight will make it accellerate a little quicker, and if you go carefull you can re-fit it all when you come to sell...
I have personally used Paul at RS and he is worth the trip mate :)
Also I have heard great things about Mike a MWM - I have seen cars he has mapped and they seem to behave very well.
I'm listening on my phone so not great quality but That sounds like it's running on 3 cylinders to me - So check the basics - I'm assuming it has the correct plugs in? Are they new or used/broken? Leads definately pushed fully on, both the plugs and on the coil? (easy to miss) Has an injector...
It's the packaging thats the issue - rotrex are usually used due to the size being much smaller compared to the eaton. It is do-able, just more difficult
Elf oil is fine, as is Mobile 1, castrol, Shell etc etc - any named oil will do roughly the same job, but oils like The Fush meationed are ether based and are a higher quality again, so cost more but offer more protection
Keep an eye on it mate but i'm sure it's nothing to worry about, quite common for a lot of cars to have a higher idle when cold, Clio's seem to make it seem worse than it really is due to all the noise/ralttles lol
Renault recommend 5w40 fully stynthetic.
Try using the search function mate, it's covered in hear nearly daily.
IMO any good quality 5w40 will be fine, or something like the Fush if you really like your engine, as it's ether based and the next step up in oil terms - very good oil
Re: JDM Y0 - My new project **** PG34 - Crashed ****
Gutted dude :(
Same as last time mind, at least you're ok!
Don't fancy putting it back on the road?
Any decent mapper can map the ec1 mate, £100 for the dongle, a computer lead from maplins and the software is free to download from the ecu companies website.
The ec1 us the main one that Paul st RS tuning uses, and support can be had from the manufacturer, no need to bother with tdf :)
It means a lot that you think it seems a good product, given your experience with a number of different ECU's mate - will be even better when you have had some more time on it ;)
The oil level gauge can only measure the oil when the engine is off, as when the engine is running it wouldn't give an accurate reading due to the oil circulating the engine.
I would guess the battery light may be an earthing issue - check all your earths for corrosion
What do you call not economical phil? In normal driving i'd not expect it to be any worse than a standard car - imo of course :)
Flat out is a different story mind lol.
With the EC1 you don't have any hassle with dash lights, but as you say they do take a lot of wiring in, and going back...
