    Black tailpipes

About 55quid from gsf, and about 85quid from renault - definately worth changing

    Black tailpipes

Possibly, on a decent diagnostic machine, but you should replace it every 5 years or so - they generally get clogged up and slow down sending signal

NKG spark plugs ? or can i use somethiing else ?

Just to explain a bit further John, i had a missfire, and removed my plugs (they had done approx 35k) and they didnt look great - i had some super4's i bought of ebay as i too did wonder if you really needed the expensive plugs, so i fitted them and it ran with a missfire every few seconds -...

NKG spark plugs ? or can i use somethiing else ?

When renaultsport designed the f4r for the clio's it was designed specifically with this plug as part of the desigbln - im sure Fred has a copy of a spec sheet from Renaultsport specifically stating not to use anything else - remember the plug has length, heat range, design of end tip etc all...

My ITB'd 172 cup fast road/ track car project

I mean all the fast road driving you have done, you will be used to the car and how it moves around as it is, now it is stripped it will behave differently - a mate found this out when he stripped his bare and smashed his mint Saxo VTS on his first lap at Castle Combe :(

Ride height - what is best?

Sorry, miss typed there, I meant the rear is very high, so a big rake. Im lucky in that i have played around with suspension before, so manily measure from rear axle point to floor, and front subframe to floor - NEVER arch gaps :)

    Not sure about my remap

Yeah dude, 85 degrees iirc, and also you need to have the revs up a few times to stablise the temperature, so say you drive normal for 15 mins, floor it, it revs out, then take it easy for a few secs, then floor it again, the water pump spinning up with the revs cause the coolant/water to shoot...

My ITB'd 172 cup fast road/ track car project

Go carefull dude, not the best idea to strip it out before your first track day - the weight distribution will have changed greatly, and it may handle different - go carefull :)

    Fletch's 150k 172 Project..

    New lump?!

    Not sure about my remap

Bear in mind the rev limit is controlled by water temperature, so even if you have been driving a while, if the water temps isn't up then the limiter will still be low - even if the guage says its warm.

Ride height - what is best?

Going to have a play around with my KW's this weekend/next week, but the rear is set high at the moment - very high, due to the larger wheels that were previously on it. Now im on 15's, can I get peoples suggestions on what ride height would be good? Combined road and track use. I know there...

has anyone got a renault 5 ggt in mk1 valver?

I wouldn't say aweful, but definately IMO a step back - that engine dates back to the 70's, and the only advantage is it is turbocharged, but it's only a baby T2 from memory anyway, and you could do so much more with a modern fuel injected engine rather than a very old small capacity carb engine.

    Another weight thread

Too light im afraid, I think you would be able to get under 900kg's comfortably, but not under 800kg'sMore power to offset the weight would be the option

    The life of... SharkyUK's Trophy

Thanks again for kindly letting me drive it Andy - it is a great little car :)The oil was a bit of a funny one, the engine shouldn't breath too much oil out, but everything that could leak was dry, so Im guessing that is what has seeped out over the course of time.Il have a look round R.E. the...
