anyone ever ran weber 45`s on the 172?????

Yeah thats exactly what I was saying to my friend, the fact the bodies will give you much more control over the fuelling. I was very suprised at the results we got from a standard 100k engine that only made 150bhp from factory, the beauty of it is we brought the donor car for 300 quid took...

Yeah I see what your saying, but I suppose it has given you more scope for more future development?

anyone ever ran weber 45`s on the 172?????

Until we decreased the mainjet size ours was good as pissing neat fuel in at lower rpm's, it was fine higher up but the curve was all over the place an it was not really what I'd have considered driveable.

Tbh I rather it be an overkill then kill it :) In my opinion I'd much rather pay out a few quid extra for bits an spend a bit more of my time to know its less likely to let me down. At the end of the day, rod bolt failure or valve failure is gonna result in more hassle an bigger expense no...

anyone ever ran weber 45`s on the 172?????

Yeah the golf was shocking on fuel too, it was a friends car he just wanted me to help him out as he wasn't confident with some stuff. I personally would have preferred bodies but he's one these old school carb freaks haha. On first run it made 207bhp but the curve was all over place an low...

So it runs nice an cool whilst driving an only raises when stationary? Sounds like the thermostat could be stuck open chap.

From reading they fitted the arp's so they could raise the rev limit an lower the chance of rod bolt failure. By raising it they have hit the 200hp figure.

Yeah with the vw's (an slot of other manufactures) you can seem to swap an change alot of stuff from other models to make it work, we saw really good results with this an it kept the costs down. Only thing that cost us was some r/r time to fine tune it in the end.

Fairplay, set a goal an achieved it! Yeah with the bay being as small as they are the under bonnet temps soon would rise. I've noticed before after being in traffic in the past. The rs2 really seems a good bit of kit tbh, shame its not in production anymore.

Pretty much what we did on the golf we converted. Due to us only needing the ignition side of things. We ran mark 2 16v ecu an distributor with vacuum advance. Fairly easy really, just had to set the ignition timing an then the carbs took care of the fueling.

Oh right cool, I've had a bit of experience with go tech software a few years ago on a zetec turbo focus I was involved with. I found that fairly easy to work with but since then I haven't really dabbled with much. I'm really keen to learn more tbh, I've been in the trade for years now did all...

If you don't mind me asking, what software do you use to map the standard ecu? Where did you learn or find the relevant information on ecu programming?

anyone ever ran weber 45`s on the 172?????

Back in the summer a friend an I built a mk1 golf cabby with a 2 litre 16v ABF engine to run a twin 45 weber carbs, in standard form the abf makes 150bhp. After installing the carbs, balancing them an roughly setting the mixture with colourtune an setting the ignition timing it ran 207bhp on...
