It cna be done the first problem is how to moun tit stock 172 intake manifold sticks out if you use stock mounts so you need to make custom mounts to hold the engine lower in the bay so the bonnet fits.
Or got to throttle bodies which fixes the second problem.

Depends how much you want to spend. There no real limit a completly new desingd intake manifold for optimum flow and cams head work 2.2 bottom ned err no end realy (ok there is but cost comes first).
Don't bother chnaging for a 1.6 IMO 172 /182 or nothing.

The dci if it has trouble is expensive injectors an't cheap etc but there very relaible realy.
Forget tunning IMO as the costs to fix them if they go wrong arn't worht it buy the quicker model instead of tunning.
