Re: My mk1 track car blog
shouldnt be long until its running now :D
the car came with a ktec cat back, think its either 2" or 2 1/4" cant remember, so im mating the decat up to that
Re: My mk1 track car blog
right little bit of progress but not alot as xmas is a busy time of year
after talking to people who had already done this conversion it seemed the only solution on the downpipe was to make your own. i had pretty much accepted this and was getting ready...
aye thats it, automotive engineer assessor to give it a full title :clown:
this industry used to be solely based on field engineers, but its moved forward with technology and we do most of it on digital images and estimating systems. there are still cases where a field inspection is best, but...
oh no i'm not a painter, just use the mask for when im spraying at home :)
i'm a white collar engineer :D (best way at this time of year) did a stint as a mechanic, went through college, then started here, look at crashed damaged cars all day and authorise repairs etc. i want to go back to...
i'm gonna ask him if he can get big sheets of it as it usually arrives pre cut to the sort of size of a skatebaord, the backing to it is uber sticky!!
i fancy some of that griptape
could get it from my brother in law as he owns a skatepark :D unless its anything different to what you would use on a skateboard?
nasty! you wear a mask? mind you i cant talk, only bit of safety equipment i own is a mask for spraying, and thats only cos i get high as a kite if i dont wear it!
busy time of year for me at the moment, cold weather, slippy roads and careless driving means lots of accidents!
i wouldnt be that confident! :quiet:
everything in the car becomes a missile in an accident! i'm screwed if i crash the 106, i've got all sorts that could kill me, 172 decat, set of brake pads, 172 ecu, and god knows what else lmao
i worked it out to be
2 lines come out of master cylinder for rear brakes, connect using Y piece into 1 pipe, this pipe runs to bias valve, then another pipe coming out, split this using Y piece into 2 pipes again, run these to rear brakes as normal.
sounds simple eh :D
i have...
lol can't argue with that advice! mind you as long as you're not in a rush for you're parts you'll be ok lol
have you worked out how to fit the bias valve? have you found somewhere to get the Y piece connectors for the brake pipes, or can you just use a T piece? i've worked it out and it...
lol ;)
be warned, they dont have the best customer service, good prices though!
ben have you decided what you're doing with the brake bias valve? i think im gonna leave it for now and just clean up my stock one, if it doesnt work for whatever reason i'll take another look at an in-car adjuster
aww mate they messed me around with my seats, then the handles didnt turn up for a while :dapprove: trouble is the seats were cheaper than aywhere else, and i couldnt find those handles anywhere else!
will pm you the link :D
looking good ben :D window winer is a bummer, i hate it when stuff like that happens
i've got to cut my carbon door cards for the handle soon, dreading it as i want it as neat as possible!
mine doesn't have a radio :clown: will use an ipod for long journeys, or sing to myself :approve:
(handbrake stays as is when doing it in situ, or have i read what you're saying wrong?)
i would have said in situ was the easiest way but everyone does it their own way :)
edit - yes 2 red bolts, or leave them in and do it as it is (in situ), up to you :D
ive just taken a look at the pic again, i think i can see what you've done, you have taken the 2 main caliper bolts out and tried getting the whole caliper off (hence why the pads are hanging over the edge of the disc)
you wont do it that way with brake pipe and handbrake still on
do it as i...
ah right thats cool, didnt want to give advice to someone who hasnt done anything before and have them do it wrong, then i get blamed for giving them advice :o
surely you can change them with the caliper in situ like on the mk1's? take metal clips off, and the little one on the metal bar at...
Re: My mk1 track car blog
its crying out for me to stop spending so much money on it :nono: :clown:
those ap racing bias valves look the business, but i should think so for £130! how do you pipe them in, is it a case of running a Y piece between the two lines so that they run into one...
Re: My mk1 track car blog
yeh i was thinking that, moves freely enough, but i dont know how easy they are to source, i'm on with it now :)
cheers mate :D slow progress at the moment!
indeed it was, i thought it was cold on saturday when working on it, but last night took the biscuit!
Re: My mk1 track car blog
well i dont think anyone can knock me for commitment on this bloody car  i was out there again last night!! :quiet:
this was my work area
removed all pipes from the bias control valve, then removed the unit itself as it looks like it might not have...
Re: My mk1 track car blog
im sticking with the standard master cylinder as im using standard calipers, so should be fine, can soon change it if need be.
i cant seem to find a valve under £50!! god knows why they are so expensive! anyone shed any light? (hollister maybe? your rally car got one?)
Re: My mk1 track car blog
dont have a flaring tool :clown: had the pipes made up at a garage across from my work....a good 40 miles away from the car! lol
its no biggie, im sure ive seen some tuned cars with the same. i could get them cut and flared when it goes for its mot, but thats a...
