Youre right Chun, there are gains to be had, but I dont think youd see a hell of a lot. More likely that headwork will just complement any other mods you do rather than give good power on its own.
Yeah I run my pbv at 4 bar fuel pressure anyway which keeps the fuelling right at high speed to compensate for the ram scoop.
Was just fettling with it tonight and for the first time ever I got a couple of pops out of the exhaust on the over-run anyway, but of course I couldnt blip the...
BTW regarding head work, I dont know if head work on the 172 lump would actually yield that much power? From various things Ive heard its definitely not a new engine design, just an older 2.0 engine which has been extensively worked on to get it to give the power it does now.
Its already in...
Dunno where youd get a sport flywheel but the only thing that you ever do with a flywheel is lighten it so that it spins up faster. You machine the existing flywheel to make it lighter. Therefore it will rev quicker, not so much momentum in it.
No problem Barry, Ill give you a couple of days notice if Im coming. Cant remember if Ive got your mobile number? Then I can text you instead of email... lmk the number on nick@cliosport.net
Yeah it gets the crap ouyt of the engine. But its really just giving it a clean bill of health. Works best on abused engines so if you look after yours it wont make much difference!
It was livelier after I did it, but I had a bit of a blitz on the engine last weekend, did the 10k boost...
Barry, I might be going round there for the flame kit next week, I keep saying Ill pop round yours sometime when Im passing to have a look at this turbo of yours. Are you around during the daytime on a weekday?
Wongy how much power did Nick Hill say it would knock out? If youre going for decat as well with the emphasis on mid range torque I think in all honesty youre looking at 160bhp tops. Still its useful power where you need it and I would hopr for 0-60 in the low 7s, 0-100 in under 20 seconds...
Thought Id post this here as Ive been doing a bit of research on this (for the Clio 16v):
The standard Piper fast road cams are called 270s cos they have roughly a 270 degree duration (give 12bhp, power band 1800-6800 rpm). The deal is they are exchange and are reprofiled from standard 16v...
I cant remember which one of you was talking about getting the head gas-flowed but I just found that SCC (the flaming exhaust / Cossie place) do headwork etc. Check out their website or give them a ring, theyre quite near you two anyway...

No way Wongy - youre actually all booked in for the work? Wicked news if thats the case mate. Id say go for mid range punch definitely. Thats what you need. Plus the way you drive youve never had it over 5000 revs anyway...only joking...but seriously though, unless you do a lot of your driving...
Yeah its only Vauxhalls that are weird. Clio 16vs dont even have an air mass sensor - they calculate air mass using signals from the air inlet temp sensor, the MAP sensor and the crank-angle (rpm) sensor.
Just take the air filter off, warm the engine, get some gloves on and hold the throttle...
Barry youre mental going for anti-lag! Youre spending all this time and effort putting the turbo plumbing together then youre gonna blow it all apart with an anti-lag system? Although admittedly anti-lag is the business as long as you dont mind an exhaust system rebuild every couple of hundred...
I dunno about K-Tec being better than any other manufacturer because they use mandrel bends...its not exactly a revolutionary technique, a lot of decent exhaust manufacturers make mandrel bent systems.
Still, side exit sounds wicked. I can never remember whether side exit exhausts are...
Its perfectly legal, theres nothing to say you cant replace the cat on your car. However, if because of that, the Clio fails its emissions test, then obviously it has to go back on again. And really you shouldnt be driving around with no cat if it makes your car exceed the emissions limits the...
No youd run it off a seperate coil, but in the end the energy comes from the battery so yes it would steal some power. But seeing as it will only flame on the over-run that doesnt really matter. Some kits detect over-run and rather than just cutting injection like normal, they keep the fuel...
Yeah and take my advice dont get the yellow Hill Power ones, theyre a b*****d to keep clean, stick with blue...the blue ones are a bit cheaper anyway arent they Nick?
Nitrous will cost you a bit more than that, if you want it fitting youre probably looking at £700 to £800 all up. It doesnt really matter which brand of element you go for as long as its not a Renault one or an OEM replacement from a motor factor.
No Luke Ive got to draw the line at neons, I just saw a Fiat Seicento going around with the most rottne neons ever...you could actually see the tube at the bottom of the skirts so it looked like someone had just stuck a pink striplight on the side of the car!
That put me right off, I can tell...
Yeah I have got a purge kit in mind, you press the button at the starting line and it puffs out clouds of gaseous nitrous oxide so you get liquid right up to the solenoid, ready to fire. Im going for pocket money mods at the moment, so I reckon flames might be just the thing, just hook up a...
A nitrous kit could be taken out in a couple of hours if you ever needed to give back the car and youd never know it had been there. Nothing else in the car needs to be changed either and itll still work.
Little mods wont really give you any power so not worth doing unless theyre part of an...
Ive been thinking about getting exhaust flames going next time I go 1/4 miling. The question is: are they wicked? Or just cheesy in a 50s Grease sort of way?
Anyway check out these hillbillies videoing a flaming car

Hill Power are still the cheapest and best. Does anyone else know a Renault specialist (or in fact any garage) who will port and polish the head and the manifolds, change the cambelt, swap the cams over for fast road jobs and fit Vernier pulleys, hook up a chip to suit all the mods and dial it...
My tanks made by Bailey, the same people that do all the ford stuff and make dump valves etc. I think the Prima one is the Bailey one. The one for the Clio is actually the same as for the R5 GTT.
Gas flowing a head is usually £300 to £500 depending on who you go to. Cams (on a 16v) can be had for £350 as a kit including chip from Piper.
The Hill Power throttle bodied Williams had four forward-facing sidedraught inlets with a single long filter element over the whole lot.
The grille...
