I take it your bought the pack from Renault? If so the back is a universal pack to fit a range of different engine you only need the 172 steel one.
FOr a cheap good value option I'd look at new brakes line
£45 or so
£60 for DS2500 pads which are very good ontrack they should be fine)
New bleed nipples seals etc and rebuilt th calipers yourself (i'm looking to a price I'd say £35 for the parts and say 2 hours strip down time).
New disk...
And the rest of the bits which go with it.
If you want cheap mods are better induction kit with cold air intake decat (or smah internals out of the present one and have trouble at MOT maybe) strip the car of any weight get some coilovers and ecient tyres and learn how to drive well.
If your going to get a cage get a proper full cage IMO thats just for show and insurance is a pain with a cage.
Full cages are a pina to live though realy I cannot stand my old one for that realy looked truly hard core though.
Its not the brake Bias valve its the zeon headlight adjuster.

when its like that your light will be pointing up to much. If you have weight in the back it won't tilt them down.

Lambo have a diesel in testing (ok its for there race but but still) Lotus had one in testing. MErc are making an Sl 4.0 diesel. AMG have made a C class diel (it wan't that reliable but they made it). Didn't lambo start out in the diesel car...
Do the calcualtion I'd see what the costs are you'll loose a fair bit buying a new car.
I like the Golf but 20k isn't many miles so the cost of a Golf might not work out. Infact it might pay for the extra tyres etc you'll go though in the Clio.

Might be worn shock/ball joints what milage is it on whats the car had done suspension mods etc?
Check the service book should be done ever 18k or 2 years whatevers sooner but depends when it was serviced might have been done at 48k and 2 years etc.
Halfords don't sell the dci one are you getting mixed up with the low pressure fuel filter which is in the tank but even then Halfords don't sell that.
There two filters on the dci the one in the tank which is good for 150k and the engine one which is good for well who know mines on 22k...
TDC sensor most likly.
You'd know if its fuel filter as the engine goes smooky and looses power also there good for more than enough mile.s
Have you tried ensuring there no air in the fuel system ie pump the lottle hand pump near the fuel filter?

On a 172 a decat is better than on a 182. IS it worth it well depends what you want a its a cheap mod though.

If you pay £8k or so places will do a VAG 1.8 T transplant whihc is 280hp out of the box then tunning ontop of that 350hp is easy from the VAg engine.
4 second to 60 is quick you'd need a fair few bits to do that IMO.
