The engine is the only difference realy between the 172 and normal cars.
I was in third today trying to get grip there a few tricks you can do stickign the car in revese and you cna get a bit more grip but then your driving backwards.
Yozza sport are making a 4 pot brake package up using stock disk which are great.
I had the same power as a 180 in the WIlliams and use 259mm disk (stock 182/172 are 280) with Willwood 4 pot barkes and a nromalish pad compound and there great never got any fade or even a hint and I track it a lot.
Clio Williams 2
1995
103k
2.0 with a lot of tunning bits.
Track use
I run 10-60 Millers and its great 2 bar on track at 120 degrees and never seem to break down unlike other 10-40 which ran 1 bar or less on track at 125degrees and had to be changed ever time.
For gerbox oil I use Miller...
Probably just conincidence
There a pain to fix the drivers side is the side to try and work out how to do it (unless you have aircon) the passengers sides a pain to change.
I'd have both done why the did the cambelt and not the aux I don't know they should both be changed together plus you have to take the aux belt off to do the cambelt anyway.
Try Tesco there very good but you need to shop round
CIS are very good value for youung driver with modifications
Also try Adrian Fulx there not very good paying out though

I'd have no worries about modying a car with warently Renault have to prove the chnages were responsibe for the failure to refuse waently work I've never had trouble the delaers just send the bits to Renault and get refunded so they...
Renault Uk may offer a % donation but i wouldn't expect much.
60k is about cambelt time if you drive it hard IMO. If you have an extended warently leave it till 72k
Depends where abouts you are.
Any good garage (usually not Renault) can do the suspension checks for £30~40 swopping the tyres round is free beyond that see any good dealership (again depends where you are) and they should be able to diagnose any suspension aligment issues.
Its the way of the world. Renault do them slevs no favour advertising it with variable valve timing but then again there not truely lying and it sells cars.
Cams are only worthwile if your remapping with other mods IMO.
The 4k kick is down to the cam and fueling nothing to do with VVT vvt only activated at 1.8 k and disactivates at 6.5k its nothing to do with any of the kicks the car has.
Nice cars shame there quitre expensive for a decient spec and there hevaier than the Mk2's so you need more power for the same performance so you get worse MPG.
Its not bad car though, have a look at the Skoda Fabia though and Seat Ibiza as well.
Milage make a big difference change the oil...
4-2-1 from the 182 is better but then you need to make the exhaust to fit as the 172 exhaust cat etc is different than the 182 setup (which has th 4-2-1 manifold)
I'd make sure you get the intake modified at the same time and also go for some cams then 195hp depends on other factors.
