we went overkill and used 4 just so they had a decent coat on them, had a bit of each can left, but used a new can for each wheel to get a nice even coat. could have got away with 3 really. was the big tins of halfords bright silver or something it was called, didnt even do the centre caps they...
as joe says and as i said above, you wont save money, you will spend more. ive never been so well off as i was when i first got my dci, the most expensive car ive ever bought, purely because i wasnt modding, was just driving it and enjoying a new car, when you get something old like a 172 you...
sometimes they arnt as good as you remember when it comes to old cars, i remember my little 1.2 16v being brilliant and not really that slow, until i get back in a 1.2 and realise they are dangerous!
cheers dude, what does the gasket set include? head, inlet mani, exhaust mani? anything else?
is it required to use new headbolts on these engines or is it just good practice?
depends how bad you get the modding bug, i recon at a rough guess, cars cost me £1000 a month, thats everything from buying, fuel, servicing and modding!
im really happy with the ph1, its running spot on, ive only done 500 miles in 10 months, getting mot'd on thursday ready for a months use before it goes in for a full respray :)
couldnt be happier with the GT, well i could, a bigger set of wheels and some stance but that can wait, does...
ive never done it but id imagine easy enough, depends how confident you are.
personally id buy the turbo if the TCE, get a custom manifold made with a decat to mount the turbo, run the TCE inlet manifold if it fits, id imagine it does. along with the TCE intercooler and pipework.
have it...
great fun! cheers matey!
ill likely work it all out ive done heads before on cars just never on a renault, just fancied going in with a bit of knowledge behind me!
my ph1 is a complete minter with full history, last winter the alternator died, then the aux belt tensioner then the battery then the window regulator all within 2 months. great summer toy, not an all round runabout, thats why i went in and ordered the GT
im with joe on that, you think a 172 would be cheap motoring, until you go back to one and realise its not really, at least if you want to keep it up to a high standard
mates 1.2 16v has threw a belt, so im taking the head off it tomorrow to inspect the valves and take it from there, never whipped the head off one before, assuming its pretty easy but anything to look out for?
im assuming its pretty easy, inlet manifold off, top engine mount off, jack engine...
its over 6yrs old, so it should in theory have 6 stamps in the book inc both belts and brake fluid, however that would be overkill, id be happy with a few stamps and both belts
i change when its on in the ph1, not because im to retarded and need a light to tell me when to change, but because thats when i feel its best to change, in my ph2 i rarely ever saw it as i always found it best to change before it came on.
also my ph1 has a raised limiter so my shift light...
