    Cambelt And What Else?

On the advice of others on here and my mechanic (after he had checked it) I didn't bother changing the pump when I got mine done.

    knocking on hard acceleration

I've resorted to turning mine off in the wet now when I know I will have to give it some to get in a gap at the junctions..... It would be interesting to hear what others are like or what they're like from out side the car.

    Putting your foot down...

I would rather have most diesels over a 1.2 in all fairness;)

I bet the excess that some of these young drivers would have to pay must be laughable tbh.

    02 reg Clio 172 vs. 53 reg Clio 172 ...

Maybe the old one had the accustic valve removed or air feed disconected from the side of the air box? Might explain the lack of noise.

    Cambelt and Auxbelt change

Well it is true:D I got mine done just the other week. Based in Huddersfield so not to far and he is a cambelt specialist too. With new spark plugs, oil and everything for the 5 year service you will be looking at about £400 all in (as Dan says). PM me if interested.

Not worth the risk imo, just get it done on time then you don't have to worry about it anymore. Thats what I've just done.

    more roar!

Had mine off for ages now. I still managed to get 45mpg on a very boring 90 mile motorway run and my normal running about seems to be the same as it was with it. Can't notice any difference in performance whats so ever.

    airbag and service light on

Pull the lid off the steering column (no screws) and check the connection behind that. That's what caused the airbag and service light on mine a while ago.

Cam Belt / Aux Belt coming up

I got mine done by a cam belt specialist near me for £270 (mates rates). Should be £300 to anyone else and that's a normal 172 with climate....

    172s still to get cheaper???

They might go down a bit by December but not much imo. You have to decide if its worth paying that little extra to have it now and start enjoying it or wait a few months to save a few hundred at most. You could end up waiting for ever with that way of thought because if you wait from December...

Anyone ran with just one silencer??

+1 I had to run mine for nearly 2 weeks like that. Sounded nice up to 3000 rpm then just made the ears bleed after that. Not a good idea:S

    clutch pedal is very stiff

The clutch in my 172 is nothing compared to the one in my old 306, now that was stiff. Only thing that had me stalling when I got it was the crazily high bite point.
