if it's kicking out black smoke it must be RIIIIICH. bit of a circle to which came forst though, rich running will cause ring/bore wear and poor sealing, but poor compression will make it run rich as it'll be losing power.
old rings would be nagging at me though, as would 130k old stem seals.
i read that as using old rings? were the bores even honed first? If not there's just not going to be any hope the oil control rings are sealing anything
that compression result is also lower than I'd be happy with after a rebuild
this!!!! exactly in these EXACT words. I literally have my head in my hands 10 times a day after giving advice to people who cut corners to save money and wont listen to wisdom earned from experience. There comes a point when you get so frustrated you just dont want to help anymore
1. STOP!!!!!!
2. read this thread. http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?510521-cambelt-problems-%28local-garages%29
3. call someone who can fix it
I've worked to get the spax setup available specifically because the other options offered nothing in the way of adjustment, so are poor value for money. There cannot be a one size fits all solution when cars are being stripped out and have big weight variations. the billy stuff is fine but once...
I like 1144 for a road car, they're a little bit borderline for track if you're heavy on the brakes, but i've done a full snetterton day with them. 1155 are better for track, I know of people have switched to them for track mk1's now and they're all happy.
Brembo pads tend to be rebranded...
I've got one of those tension testing tools made by gates. It's never had the batterys in it since i've owned it, and the calculations you have to do to be able to use it are crazy, the instruction book is about 20mm thick. nothing wrong with a twist test and make sure it's not screaming from...
do you mean the pressed on flange was wrong? I've had to rectify one just like that recently, looked like the belt had been running with 1 rib over hanging the pulley for a long time
there has, but mostly it's down to 5th hand opinions. I find DS2500's give a very wooden pedal feel, despite the fact they do work well. Disk brand makes very little difference as long as they're not too soft (like EBC which are like cheese)
I wouldn't use champion plugs in anything at all ever to be completely honest. NGK or nothing as far as i'm concerned.
go to another motor factor, halfords are pretty useless if you need to find info and can't tell them exactly what you want
do not under any circumstances fit EBC disks or pads, no matter what colour they've sprayed them. Aweful.
Plain disks (no dimples, no grooves, no cross drilling) and some decent pads, with braided lines is all you need. Pad choice is personal, but I would always spend more on pads than disks...
