same as this. there's no rod from the valve to the axle. Quite a common MOT fail (incorrectly) as the tester thinks it's broken/missing. Even reading that page it reads to me that it's a pre-adjusted bias valve, not a load proportioning valve
They're not really. Done a couple of cars on stock inlet with management and they're damn good. The issue is idle control. They are ideal for a stock internals lump on ITBs though
greenstuff are the worst pads i've ever had the displeasure of owning. Took out a barely worn set and replaced with a £9 set of the cheapest pads i could find, and they were a HUGE improvement. I honestly can't think of a worse pad compound
This.
They're not amazing, but they're far from how you're making out
It will, with ANY lowering springs, but it's simple to adjust, and you should expect to check and adjust to suit
pins are probably slightly bent or corroded, a pin punch should get the out so you can assess their condition. Should be easy to get new pins if you need them.
You may find that when you push one piston in, the others come out more, i use an old pad and a g-clamp on each side, so you can push...
I'd never even try to do the aux belt on an aircon 172 without removing the slam panel and bumper, you ned the space to get the leverage IMO. Some have/do leave it on, but it's only a few bolts and it's easier by a long way
Minted 1144 and Brembo HC discs are excellent. If you only change pads, be aware you still have greenstuff compound embeded in the disc surface, so you wont be getting the potential best from the new pads. If you change pad compound, you should always change discs
Get a 182 plenum so the mountings match up, block the vac pipe for the carbon canister (different place on the 182 plenum) and you're away. Make sure the head comes with the rocker cover (it's matched to the head, this isn't optional) and a breather box, as this is different on too.
how many miles have you done in that period? performance engines tend to use a bit more oil than mundane equivalents, especially if driven hard. I remember back in the mid 90s my brothers F7P engined renault 19 16v would use a litre in 1-1.5k and that was regarded as normal.
