The trials & tribulations of racing a Clio

Thanks. Photos can be deceiving though! 22nd March is at Snetterton. Its a CSCC test day as our first race is there in April.

That's a good find. Any idea on the make?

Next big investment is the D2 Dash... When I remove the dash and heater I will have the unenviable task of picking through the butchered wiring loom to start removing all the unnecessary wiring, fuses and relays. I'm not an expert at wiring by any means and having inherited the wiring from...

The trials & tribulations of racing a Clio

Finally managed to make some progress this weekend. Starting with fitting the new starter motor which I thought should have been plain sailing but after bolting it up I flicked the kill switch to check it and it engaged straight away and started turning the engine over. After and hour or so of...

Looking good. The oil cooler is a tricky one. Although I've got the smaller PMS radiator, mine fitted to the side which still gave it good airflow.

I tried those torques fittings on my pump and they would not engage properly. Did you find they clipped in on? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The trials & tribulations of racing a Clio

I have an interior design and refurbishment business with my wife. We do high end interiors and occasionally build houses or renovate old ones. We designed and built this one which we fiished at the end of the summer. But Kitchens and bathrooms are our bread and butter. A million miles away...

The trials & tribulations of racing a Clio

Not too much to report at the moment although with the pre season test looming mid March I'm going to have to crack on soon. Just snowed under with work at the moment which is not normal for this time of year and I could do without it! Anyway, a small addition to the weight loss program this...

N/a engine rebuild, what mods ?

I wouldn’t bother messing with the head too much. Supertech valves and springs if budget allows. ARP rod bolts as you’ve already planned. Megan bottom pulley (keyed) And everything else as you already planned. Group N timing and 182 manifold. If you can stretch to an exhaust as well then you’ll...

The everlasting ph1 ITB Build **GREEN-BUILD STARTS AT PAGE 100**

No cushioning although I mounted it at a slight angle with the rear bracket bent and twsited to fix on the bulkhead but that was just because of other obstructions in that engine bay. I prefered that catch tank to the polished alloy one in my current engine bay.

The everlasting ph1 ITB Build **GREEN-BUILD STARTS AT PAGE 100**

I fitted a 2ltrMocal (in black) to the inside of the suspension turret on my other Clio before we sold it. Fitted nicely there and of course decent quality. All looking good Neil.

My new racecar project (Icemans old shell)

Ah yes you're right, Stock Hatch. They must have introduced Hot Hatch since I last looked. You're going to sit comfortably in Class B by the looks of it. Possibly with a bit of ballast?

My new racecar project (Icemans old shell)

Just had a look at the regs. It's completely changed since I last raced with them! As has Roadsports. Hot Hatch used to be basically just Saxos and Fiestas. Looks quite interesting now, although potentially up against rearwheel drive BMs as well.

My new racecar project (Icemans old shell)

My Clio was never eligible for the Hot Hatch series although its probably 3 years since I raced in it. The only one I could enter in 750MC was Roadsports. What have they changed?

    Clio 172 cup rally/race/track car

Fair enough. I assumed you'd have to comply to MSA rules just like circuit racing. They do have lists for off road but I guess that is the WRC stuff like you say.

Silverstones have been removed from the Blue Book list now haven't they?

Clio 173 Cup running on 3?

With the engine idling (and obviously misfiring) unplug each one in turn. If you unplug a good one the engine will misfire even worse. When you unplug the dead one the engine won’t change. Don’t be tempted to buy cheap ones off eBay. Genuine ones are about £40 each I think. If you can stretch...

Clio 173 Cup running on 3?

Almost certainly an injector. Easy to diagnose by unplugging each one at a time while engine is running. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes, mine are quite loose but they can't go anywhere so I haven't been too worried about it.

If you are talking about Clio 1*2 (172 or 182) then they don’t have a rear ARB as standard. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

182 - engine/box out the top, or bottom?

You can take it out through the top easily enough. You’ll need to remove the radiator really. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    K20 powered 172

Position-wise that's pretty much exactly the same as mine. Except I had the kit with no bulkhead connectors, so I just had the lines running through grommets which gave them a bit more adjustment. (not a very good photo I'm afraid)

Thanks Rob (great name!) These sites are great for learning stuff aren't they. I think I must be subscribed to about 20 different build threads on here. You can never know enough! Happy to help if you have any questions. I can't guarantee I'll have all the answers but 2 heads are better than...

Ordered from these guys. https://www.aluminiumwarehouse.co.uk/ 4mm with brushed finish but they only cut to square sizes, so I had to cut the circle out of it. They're quite local to me so I collected but they do deliver of course.

Getting seat position right is one of the most difficult tasks on a race car. This looks good though. Is it fairly central to the steering wheel where you have it?
