i know what you mean about ragging it when its cold. I had to do this the other when i came across that ctr! i was apologising to my car tho.... Usually dont go over 4k when its cold (like the M5s) and when the guage is at normal it gets booted, but usually cuts in at 6800 rpm for ages, pain...
