Hi. I suppose so really. They dont look particularly good either - i.e, not stainless steel, but seem to do the job and dont look in yer face which is not what i want. To be honest, i havent seen an exhaust that looks like its supposed to be there on a 172 other than the remus twin pipe jobby...
If its a diesel, itl have a governor - probably around 5500rpm? i dont know with modern diesels, but with my bros old 405 diesel it used to rev to 5500 and stop there. Also when they MOT test diesels, they floor the accelerator to test the governor, so it cant hurt it. I used to drive around...
Also, do all the pre-race checks: oil level, tyre pressures, remove spare wheel and fill with only a little optimax. If youre really worried, empty your windscreen washer bottle to gain those vital split seconds!
BenR - what mods have you done to your 172? and what exhaust do you think i should go for on my 172? would it be silly for me to get the cup exhaust? Im also a student, but ive just finished my degree and probably going on to do a masters in september.
You should toast him. Take him down some twisty roads (private runway of course) and let the clio show him what its made of. Escorts are heavy. I used to have a 1.6 scirocco and my friend used to have a 1.6 escort 16v and i always used to toast him! easy money mate.
Hahaha, oh dear, cool! Ok, ill stretch to a "big one" marsbar...Thatd be cool if a company took on your design and developed the supercharger. Maybe Hillpower could fit them to our 172s?

I dont know much about the ECU, all I was told was that it was for a group N rally(?) Clio. Its a stage one 732(?) something or other. Ill look for the receipt with the numbers on it etc. Externally, the ECU looks identical to the original one, but some of the numbers are different, i think it...
Hey, why not get a "blow pipe" from Les Smith. Ive seen loads of cool cars with this mod, and itd look great bolted onto the original exhaust to give it that racy look. If you blip the throttle, they make your exhaust note sound like a pig snorting!
I have a new contact who prepares race cars, one being a clio cup car in Hampshire and Id like to get my hands on a cup car exhaust. This i can do, but he tells me (after making a few phone calls) that the whole exhaust including manifold is £925. But, after looking in my engine bay, he says...
Great, another recurring problem amongst 172s. Mines going into the garage on the 1st August to get this fixed *hopefully!* - watch this space folks. They told me some seal has gone on the box, but im hoping theyll replace the gear box under warranty - hey maybe theyll put a close ratio box in...

Hey there, i was there, but not in my car. Hitched a ride in a blue/silver 520i (old) and sat in the lay by at Cornhill. Saw a silver 16v and a Williams (cruising tonight also, why didnt you come next to me at the lights towards the spectrum!!?) There was a very loud sounding (and quick!) 306...
Off the lights twice: I was in front and he was behind first of all, i booted it in first all the way to 7600 rpm (handy!) and got a nice distance also in second pulled some more. Next lights: he pulled to my right, we had a quick chat and he says to me "what have you done to your car then!?"...

Hehe, saw your post nick, good work! I dont know about it being a struggle Nick. My friend (Jamesw) gets the edge on me, as in acceleration shove (especially off the line when he does a launch), but when his intercooler is hot, i can keep with him. It depends how much you can toast 172s, as his...

Keep your eyes open and remember to take these pulsars into the twisty roads - straight line (acceleration) racing these babies is a bad idea
A friend of mine bought round to my house a brand new mini cooper-S (160 bhp supercharged jobby) in a nice blue colour. He took me out and it was a fully loaded one with GPS, heated seats and kitchen sink etc. I love the build quality of the car, very nice indeed. The handling was impressive...
Yep, just had an amazing race against a mini cooper S. I was not in my mk.1, but a mk.2 172 and it was around a dirt track and toasted the Cooper! hooorah!.......that is on a new game which is called Gran Turismo concept. Just went out and bought it, quite an excellent game - same as gt3 but...
Yep, raced a Y-reg WRX estate a while back from a roundabout onto a dual carriage way - both of us were 2-up and as we reached !20 mph i went past him with my friend waving as we did so! got past and put a nice gap there. Later on he said to a friend of mine that hed been toasted by a young kid...
