I can quite happily say that a Clio 172 will peepee on the 150bhp Golfs.
Hat a blast with one a while back in my old 172. Both pulled off on a rolling start in 3rd, I get my foot down as did he and the Clio just edged away. Simple as that, got a thumbs up from the guy too so all good...
Any kind of weight reduction is going to improve your power to weight ratio and in theory make your car slightly quicker. By how much it makes it faster is another question though!! lol
I plan to strip out my 1.4 Renault 5, lower it and get some wider rims on. That should make it a nippy...
I would personally say that you should modify it as a Dynamique rather than into a Sport.
It'll look nice with all the kit on it but still won't be a 182 so perhaps go for some nice euro styling. Wide rims, smoothing and colour coding. I'd say that would make it very smart. :D
Also the...
But what about if you can't afford to spend the money on a faster car due to insurance and running costs, does it do any harm to spend some on the car you've got????
No harm in making a car 'better' in your own opinion, be it lowering, wheels, exhausts etc.
My 172 used to do the same mate, kinda makes a tinkling noise when cooling down after a nicely paced drive. My missus 182 does it but not to the same extent.
My Meg exhaust doesn't do it really, maybe I should try harder!! lol
Sometimes people stare at a car because they are intrigued by it rather than coz its too over the top.
Sometimes people stare because its a sh!tter. I stare at supercars because they look good and I would admire a car thats been well modified.
I also laugh at sheds with big tailpipes and...
Depends on what you want from your car as to whether its worth modifying it.
Some cars get ruined by modifications but some good touches can really make it unique. Just don't expect to make any money over a standard car when you come to sell and anything too radical will narrow down the...
If it is a 52 reg, its gonna originally be a 172. At the very earliest a 182 might be on a 53 reg same as my late 172.
£12k though??? Price isn't so much steep as f-ing verticle! haha
Spotted my second car in a car park on Saturday. I knew I'd sold it too someone local but surprised to see the car still local over 3 years later. Nice to see its still going strong.
It did look like this when I owned it -
It had a set of Wolfrace 15" wheels, black sun strip, Pioneer...
For £70, I definitely thought it was worth doing. Especially considering that the standard speakers sound 100 times better with this headunit. Goes to show how pants the OE one was.
Managed to get it sorted, found a power lead that would have been used of there was a fag lighter, snipped that, extended it and connected it to the yellow lead on the HU. :D :D
Advice much appreciated.
Am I gonna have to chop one of the connections from the back of the headunit??? Thats the only thing I'm wary of, don't wanna knacker the connectors!!! lol
I see, I take it that it will need the permanent supply to remember settings like the radio tuning etc??? Unlike the old one where everything was manual?
cheers mate thats really handy!! :D
I'll if I can get an adapter for it.
Just to clarify, basically the HU needs a constand power supply from the battery??
I've just bought a JVC headunit for my Renault 5.
Removed the old cassette deck without a problem. Trouble is I've connected the new head unit to the existing connections but nothing. No power or response from the headunit at all.
I have noticed that of the two connecting plugs that...
Thats not a bad price, although dealership costs vary by all accounts.
As it happens when my missus got there to collect the car, the reciept said £176, so she's gonna check what they've actually taken.
At least its the same (well only £4 different) price as my service which makes sense...
Thats the trouble with Renault.
Only thing I can thing is if they didn't replace something on mine due to it being newer which they replaced on the 182.
Ok here's the thing.
My Megane had its first service the other week, even though its only got 2500 miles on, has to be done to maintain the warranty.
It cost me £172 from Renault Croydon
My missus took her Clio 182 Cup in for its first service, its got 10,500 miles on it but it cost...
My missus has just had to take a work colleague to hospital as he's been hit in the face by a wheelie bin that blew at him.
Two black eyes and forehead's all split open..............damn funny though!! lol
Anyone got any recommended makes??
I've had a couple from Halfords which were breathable ones and seemed pretty good except they're have a tendency not to fit over the car that well and aren't that tough.
Any suggestions? :D:D
Nice one with regard to the 138 Clio, nice car to have at such a young age!! :D
With regard to the 197, only thing I'd say about it is. If you bought it full price from Renault you've been done, bought my Meg 225 for less and I feel you still get more car for you money.
Get it on discount...
I wouldn't be too happy with that personally, I know that there will be 'imperfections' but to be able to see it that clearly in a picture looks a bit too imperfect to me.
I'd give em a call and ask mate. :)
Its all down to the risks of having a claim. I assume that they think that a small hatch with a big engine owned by a 19 year old would be a bit of a risk of you smashing it up.
Not all young drivers are gonna smash their 172s up, I didn't when I was 21 but some people do! :(
