if you can stretch to 8.5k for the car then you could get a mk2 172 !! the insurance is good and MPG is probably the best for a hot hatch !!
how old are you ? NCB ?
mk1 172 can be had for under 8k
and they are a different class to a saxo, unless you are craggy you wont stand much of a chance mod for mod againt a 172

TBH the saxo is gonna be newer with less miles, yes they are a LOT more common BUT they respond better to simple mods and will surprise a few 16vs !!
If it was me i would buy a 16v purely because saxos are sooooo common
if they werent then VTS all the way
its most likely the tappets, your probably using an oil which is too thick and isnt lubeing the cam followers fast enough, does the sound go when its warm ?
they are a funny wheel, they rubbed my rear caliper and i needed 8mm spacers and theres room for a fag paper between them now. if you get 3mm spacers and try it, thats all you can do !!
god im confused IF YOU NEED 37 then YES they are the right ones, i thought that the standard offset was 48 ??
if peeps with 172s are saying 37 then they are right and need 3mm spacers !!
if the offset of your car is 48 and the wheels are 40 then they should stick out rather than in !! strange, maybe its the design of the wheels ? or they sent the wrong ens ? does it have ET40 stamped in them ?
yeah ive got toora plat 8s in a 40 offset too, they might be the closest offset for your car, i dont personally know !! but just put some 5mm spacers on the rear and see
you can fit phase 2 bump strips on !! you need the actual strips and the clips as the clips are different too !!
you can either get these from a scrapyard or someone on here
if you want ive got a set of phase 1 strips and clips if u want em
lol
more octane = less likely to r****d at high pressure, 16v was made to run on 95 the RON has nout to do with performance, the extra cleaning things in it may help a little, if you can afford it do it, if not dont worry
