After going to Castle Coombe at the weekend and seeing a Clio with a cup splitter next to one without I'm thinking of putting one on my car.
I'm undecided about putting a K-tec carbon one on or just buying a brand new Renault one to avoid problems with fitment etc.
Has anyone put a K-tec one...
That' s not an airbox..it's a valve which alters the length of the intake to the airbox at different engine speeds improving torque.
I would leave it in place unless your going to install an IK (Viper, Maxogen etc.)
I wouldn't go as far as saying Magnatec is crap, it's just not the right oil to use in a 172/182.
I ran my old Renault 19 16v on Magnatec 10/40w and it was fine.....old car though.
Had exactly the same problem on my girfriends 97 Clio.
Managed to get a set of locks for £30....bit of a pain having two keys for the car but there we go.
Worth ringing these guys if you need a set.

If I had the time I'd buy a second OE airbox and modify it using glassfibre so I could put a cone inside it getting the best of both open/closed systems.
Probbaly a lot of hassle though so I would just stick with the OE airbox and drop in a good panel filter (K&N, Green or ITG).
I wouldn't say the 172 is an expensive car to run at all....compared to my old WRX the petrol and insurance is cheap!
Keep the car and have fun in it:D
Definately 182....I don't think the one lady owner would be bothered to do the exhaust work to make the 172 look like the 182.
IMO there is nothing wrong with it even if it is an import....don't get stressed by all this resale value bs....it's a French car at the end of the day so your boung...
I'd try and save up for the sports cat Steve....it is expensive but with roadside checks becoming more common etc it'll give you peace of mind.....also makes a good improvement over stock.
The bolts at the manifold end of the downpipe are indeed very awkward to get to but if you've done the...
