That's the exact reason why I'm not bothering with one on my 172.
Went for a blast yesterday and the car seems more than quick enough for me and definately loud enough:D
ITG, K&N and Green panel filters are all better than the OE filter and will improve throttle response and you'll also have the bonus of being able to wash and re-use them.
IKs make a lot of noise which I think gives a false sense of a speed/performance improvement.

Nice P1...I've 'stepped down' if you like from Subaru ownership too...I think you'll find the running costs of a 172 very good after the P1:D
That WRX was one well looked after car....was 11 years old when I sold it.
Really kept on top of the engine bay cleaning..used to give it the once over on quite a regular basis as quite a lot of dirt used to get round the sides of the bonnet and in the IC scoop.
Thanks for the replies...plenty of options to choose from!
Mike....what kind of gain are we looking at with the fastchip group N ecu upgrade....what parameters does it alter to make more power/torque?
Good figures there...12ft of extra torque is definately nice.
Need to find someone down south who does the same thing as it's what I'm looking at doing in the future.
Would definately work better with mapping but then every car fitted with an induction kit and aftermarket exhaust would benefit as well.
WRC technologies are indeed a very reputable company who offer good services....I've heard a lot of good reports about them from people who have had work...
Good move....hope you have some luck out there....I've decided not to go fishing as it's just too cold and the b**gers are just going to be sitting on the bottom not eating.
Hope you get the car sorted out soon

Cooper S is very expensive...182 will probably deliver the most fun driving experience for your money.
Typical French squeaks and rattles but that's just normal....you'll get used to it
Yeah mate...I cycle to work so milage is low as I only really use it at weekends:D
Just because a car is old in terms of plate etc doesn't make it a bad motor.....I think I may have an okay one so am definately going to keep it.....well, until I can afford a 911:D
Got a Green panel in mine.....might try and remove the valve at the end of the OE feed this weekend though and route it a bit further down behind the fog light:D
My 172 is about 4 years old now which may be old in some peoples eyes but for me is the newest car I've owned and with 14k on the clock it's got lot of life left in it.....going to keep it a few years:D
I'm c**p at painting an I know it'll come off so am going to use the mat instead!
I think silver would look good under the bonnet and reflect the heat well
Quite a good idea
I haven't sprayed the airbox but have been thinking of buying some heat resistant mat/shield and covering the box up. Have to agree on the IK thing...had one before and it really was c**p in the summer months.
I noticed this number too in a moment of boredom parked up waiting for the garage to open to have some work done.
May ring it this weekend to get it registered in my name etc
