The vent in that pic looks like an exit....a lot of WRC cars have similar vents which basically vent 'used' air which has been through the rad and is hot out of the engine bay.
Vents can extract or let hot air out as well as scooping in cool air depending on design but sometimes these vents...
I like a bit of a project so if I do decide to fit an induction kit if some sort I'd like to do a one-off using a similar idea of open filter inside airbox....been done on WRC cars and gives the best of both worlds.
Be interested to see pics and dyno figs of this new intake system when it goes...
I don't know how it could have broken down and caused problems
I used 5/40w in my old Subaru with no problems and the heat it generated was way more than the Renault.....the oil was more 'stressed' if you like as it had to lubricate hot turbo bearings.
Good gains but incredibly expensive.
I bet a good fabricator could custom make an airbox up with all the feeds etc for less....just have to move the battery to make some room.
Cheers for the relplies
Piggyback would probably suit my application fine....I just don't want to go through the hassle/expense of ditching the whole OE ecu if I'm not going to go for TBs/turbo etc.
I'll look into the smt6
Is there anyway to map the OE ECU on a Mk2 172..I know it can be done on other makes (ECUtek on Subarus and Revo on VAG cars) but what about the Renault?
Don't really want to go to the expense of standalone ecus as I'm not going for many mods but was thinking a remap would help get the most...
Reccomend a sports cat.....just fitted one on my 172 and it does make a nice difference in the drivability of the car:D
H&S stuff isn't cheap but the quality is top notch...I had an H&S system on my old Subaru and it fitted perfectly and the welds were tidy.
