Took my Mk2 172 to the garage this morning to have a Janspeed sports cat fitted....very impressed with the result, doesn't feel much quicker but feels way more drivable and with less hesitation. Problem is what to do next!

Hammer ususlly does the trick. Remember to put some copper slip on the inside of the replacement disc....that should help if they have to come off in the future.

I would personally run 5/40w oil....Shell Helix fully synthetic is good stuff and you can pick it up from a local garage.

I would do this...a Samco 90 degree elbow is quite a bit cheaper than the Hillpower bend but I'm not happy venting the crankcase fumes straight under the car.

Honestly, why waste the money....just go for some decent pads and braided hoses. Or, you could go four-pot and just put some grease/oil on the discs;)

I toyed with the idea of making up a decent induction kit for my 172 when I got it but quickly realised that dropping a good panel in the OE airbox was the way to go. The OE box has two good feeds, one to the front light where there is a flow of cool air and one deeper down in the wing far...

That engine does look very nice Mike Does removing the fuel rail cover make it any easier to get to the oil filter for changing it?

Isn't that why 172s/182s and the Trophy are fun to drive whilst most Audis are pretty inert?

If you look at the top of the tuning/technical page there is a pad changing guide. Haven't done my Clio pads but done plenty in my time on other cars....pretty easy job really, only pain sometimes is getting the pistons back into the caliper to make room for the new, thicker pads....I usually...

Certainly got all the right stuff! I do hear the inlet manifold match is a very good modifcation to the 172/182.

On one of my old Renault 5s the exhaust came off at the engine....was really very loud and so, so undrivable

Just read the manual and I have indeed been driving with the esp off! Still think it's a good thing to have...I'll be leaving it turned on. Still no excuse to bad driving though, no amount of 4wd, esp, ayc etc, etc will keep you on the road if your driving to quick for a corner or the roads...

So what you are saying is that it's on automatically all the time and when I've been pressing the button and the light has been coming on I've actually been disabling it!!!!

Good engines on the 16v versions...just make sure you do regular oil changes and check level as they can use a fair bit of lube.

I have a late 2002 172 and the esp light is on permanently on the dash when the button is pressed......goes off automatically if the car is switched off so you have to turn it on manually again when car is started.

Spotted this black 182 a couple of times driving down Lower Bristol Road where I work and into town.

Agree My last car looked bloody clean and tidy for an 11yr old car but on close inspection around the pillars/trim you could see plenty of laquer coming off where moisture had got underneath....the trim just hadn't been removed. Definately better off paying a bt more for a good job and not...

I would if the price was right Hillpower are having a laugh charging 50 notes for something that is esentally just a cosmetic upgrade/change.

I had a twin Magnex on my 172 and the quailty was very good....sounded lovely too:D

If you are at all concerned about induction roar I would reccommend dropping a performance panel filter(Green, K&N, ITG) into your OE airbox....you may notice a slight improvement in throttle response as well.
