Why bother when there are so many off the shelf examples which have been proven?
I would ask what grade of steel they use and how experienced the welders are.
Get the service done if you feel the need to retain a stamped up Renault book but get the other bits done by a specialist. Let us know your location and there will be a recommended specialist close to you.

That's pretty good...the thing is Directline were comfortably cheaper than anyone else, i don't really want to pay £200 to change insurers and then pay extra for covering mods.

Your insurance policy should cover a replacement. It will probably be £50/£60 of excess payout though.
