    Don't Understand Renault's Thinking

Thats always been how the initiale was though as its the "luxury" model, anyone that was buying one 9/10 probably wanted or didn't mind an auto. If you look on autotrader most of the Mk2 ones are autos.

    Clio II - dCi100 and 1.6 16v comparison

The Ph3 (>04) 1.6 and dCi100 will have rear discs yes, theres no real benefit just cosmetics really. Suspension wise i'm not sure if it was fitted with the "sports" steering and suspension that the 1.4 and 1.6 models get. Otherwise the brake setup is the same setup found on all 16v Mk2s.

    fixing the damn gearbox circlip!

The 1*2 is a JC5 not a JB3 btw and as you've already said the 182/late 172 boxes have the bolted diff retainer. My old 172 had a 182 engine in it (F4R-736) and a bolted diff retainer as it was the end of the run and its renault parts bin syndrome, same reason it had cruise/limiter.

    Brake Caliper Colour?

Silver on a black car imo. White would look dirty and go grey quite quickely.

    1.6 16V Project!

Yeah that them on the 1.6 and they looked like that after 6 months or so, and the ride was boneshaking kinked the roof around the sunroof on one side! Did look s**t hot dropwise though i'll give them that. Cheers on the meggy, loving it so far. Haven't missed the 172 yet so can't be that bad :D.

Looking nice and clean, ahh the old apex kit. Still got the mental scars lol, they've rusted up pretty much as per.

    Megane Scenic Water pump

140bhp will be probably F4R then as said seems wierd on that ealier plate as they were still using the F5R IDE engine a lot then in the megane the F4R didn't come in until the last ones on circa 02 plate, probably driven by the aux belt as said. Although may be different as its driven by the...

    SPOTTED!!! MEGA COST CLIO!!

S1600 kit is nice but the few other "touchs" ruin it. Shame.

    After some new tyres soon

Ah right read that one a little wrong :o. Still i'd get another set just due to the grip they give :approve:.

    After some new tyres soon

I wouldn't say 18 months is bad longetivity for a soft compound tyre?

    Megane Scenic Water pump

Its not necessarily related to the F4R at all, could be an F7R (closish) or an F3R (nothing like it). Need details first, 8v or 16v?

    Gearbox issue and 4th

May still be oil related you've used the wrong oil to start with, should be 75w80. I could go with linkage if it does it all the time but going away as it warms up is either the oil or the box has a physical problem.

New 182 has leaking washer jets.

No way to block them without taking the bumper off then you might as well change them, you may be able to get to the washer lines if you take the passenger side arch liner out and block them off there but I can't remember 100%.

    Immobiliser sequence...

When I went to see a megane that had a low/flat battery it clicked like crazy when I tryed to start it.

Whats the point of the aluminium casting..?

As everyone says it to protect the plastic fuel rail, it'll take plenty of compressive load as said. I'd leave it on, only really gets in the way when changing the oil filter and its easy removed.

    Oil Leak Help

Also (pictured) where the gear selector shafts sit into the back of the bellhousing here there are 3 iirc detents that fit in between to stop you engaging 2 gears at the same time. The detents slide between cutouts in the selector shafts so when one gear is engaged a detent will stop the other...

    Oil Leak Help

To do it in the car how do you get to the bolts inside the bellhousing? Haven't got a pic showing it but theres 3/4 bolts that bolt through into the gearbox how to do get to them with the box attached to the engine?

    My New 225

Very useable though, better than a normal handbrake with the centre console on it as you can just rest your arm on the centre and use the handbrake easy.

    Oil Leak Help

You can't get to all the bolts as some are inside the bellhousing and you don't want to be doing anything like that as you could dislogde no end of small parts that are in there. Even if you could I imagine you'd never be able to get it back together anyway as the detents will move so you...

    Oil Leak Help

Nope those bolts continue all the way round as they hold the two halfs of the gearbox together, its a box out job to reseal that. Not a small one by any means.

    Oil Leak Help

Theres a specific sealent renault sell in the a tube for this, probably just some generic sealent but its not very expensive so I got the proper stuff. Splitting the box is easy enough but its a bit fiddly to get back together. I wouldn't attempt it unless you've done gearbox internal work...

    172 Gone :(

Wouldn't say its criminal though tbh. Sub 20s when booting it bigtime I imagine, worth it though :D.

    Replacing Brake Fluid

You can get away with just the 1l of the clio, £12 isn't that expensive. Look at the super responce racing stuff at £40/l! Did contemplate it for a second before coming to my senses and seeing that'd be a waste of 30 smackers.
