When I changed the clutch on my old 1.6 the first time I couldn't get it off for s**t, the second time (don't ask) it pulled of a piece of piss. So just keep at it and it will come off eventually.
Checked the battery voltage? If its got a dodgy alternator and its given up the ghost with the cold weather then it won't be generating any electricity so it won't run.
No, but people prefer to buy standard cars then mod them to their own taste if they wish. I know i'd pass on a even "slighty" modded car for a standard one. Even if I intend to mod it myself, i'd want an unmolested example.

To find the pos and neg if you look into the socket of the standard speaker on of the terminals is marked "+" so if you look at the plug you can see which is positive and which is negative. Its the one nearest the clip iirc, there different colours at the headunit end to the speaker end as...
It wants the fault codes reading basically, you need to know whats causing it before you can repair the problem. I could read/clear them for you but your a bit far away.
