I don't think it'll work because the tuner list headunits are made by VDO Dayton who also make the changer, seeing as the later ones were made by cabasse i'm not convinced it'll work.
Wouldn't get one from there anyway theres always a few on ebay at about a third of the price.
The only place to take the amp power cable through without drilling is the bonnet release grommet, 8awg is about as big as you can go but i've squeezed 4awg through with a lot of difficultly.

Nope theres no sort of aux in on the oem headunit, there is a way to make an adapter to use the cd changer socket though.
Other thing is the dension ice link thingy.
If you use the adapter from car audio direct then you don't need to take the dash off, it just plugs in to the yellow iso connector that the oem headunit did.

Did mine at 25k but it was 4 years old though, the cambelt kit with the tensioner is about £75 so anything else on top of that is labour.
Its not too difficult as its only a sohc engine and theres only one tensioner and the crank and cam pulley to play with so labour shouldn't be too much but...
Also worth checking the front fog relay, i'm not sure where it is though :o I would guess its with the cluster of relays and fuses under the bonnet.
Its unlikely it would fail though but its worth checking if everything else checks out ok.
If you pay the insurance i'll buy a 172 tomorrow, £3500 on insurance seems like a rather large waste of 3.5 grand to me compared to £900. Gonna be either a 1.6 or a yaris t-sport for me next in may.
