I assume the window regulators are ok and the swivel hub bearings don't need doing/have been done?
They're pretty common.
Also worth checking the scuttle drains now before they do block up.
It'll also be why you were having problems with 3rd and 5th because the selector would have been lifted slightly, so it's not going smoothly into gear.
Definitely lift up then right and down next to 6th for reverse.
Boxes are near enough the same on the 225 and R26 aside from the diff. Ph1's 225 had a different gear selector on the box too.
You can use a controller to add weight to the steering to get more feel.
It's a lot more reliable for cars that get used a lot on track.
The dci rack is solid mounted to the subframe as well, so no rack bushes to wear out.
