I should once again add that he's more than welcome to come forward with any proof he might have of work carried out on the engine.
but yes, it's a shame that this has happened, one bad apple in an otherwise fantastic car comunity :)
oh sorry - Well I rebuilt the engine and installed it and it still knocked, so took it apart and sent the crank to APD who say that the crank has not been reground - I'm not sure how exactly they know - whether you can tell from machine marks or (more likely) by measuring it.
It was heavily...
;)
I only got confirmation last week that he didn't carry out the work he claimed on the crank, so now I have something concrete.... so watch this space
not sure if any of you have been following my project thread, but it's now been confirmed (apart from the hidious knocking from the engine) by APD that Dan didn't have the crank ground.... so i'd love for him to explain that one :)
always ;)
normally its for that lovely picture of me running out of talent... on 3 wheels, palm steering! :D
anyway, Dan has been active on the forums a fair amount - maybe I should PM him a link to this thread so he can explain his side
I've stripped all the wires that run from the ecu to the loom plug as I've got nowhere to plug them in
I've also removed little things like the wire that connects the alternator to the plug (for the dash light) as i've replaced them with mk1 items (same for oil gauges) - but those things are...
I do - fantastic memory! :D
I thought they were the same :o, but I'll get an F4R one (assume they're common on 1*2s?)
iirc, wayne had the same problems with his - fan running constantly - don't recall him using the 'wrong' CTS
that pressure sender is massive!!
I'm hoping to just put both senders onto a t-piece as they're small
I'm going to go get my sump bolts and adapter tomorrow (missioning it into brighton :()
will post some pics of my set up
wont be able to get values until the engine is built
pah, can't be dealing with having to control it myself ;)
worst case scenario i'll connect it up to a fan switch like the mk1 and wire that to the relays instead... although I would like the 172 system working for the variable speed! :)
just can't see why it shouldnt work as i've not touched...
yup, i've got the 2 relays connected up, haven't touched them, its just that the 12v one seems to be always on?
where do the 2 plugs connect? both to the fan?
I'm just trying to tidy up the 172 loom to fit my mk1 and want to sort out the fan...
as far as I can work out, i've not removed anything from the loom that should effect the running of the fan - unless its controlled by something in the dash?
there are 2 connectors that come off the same...
Don't think Danlp6 has ever seen the inside of an engine before :rasp:
cheers burp! :)
just can't wait to get it back up and running... i hope its fast :(
the crank:
back to square 1:
atleast this way, i'll have built the entire engine by the book, so should know its condition and it should proove to be reliable!
the crank was shipped off to stan @ APD
he has since confirmed that Dan has not carried out the work he...
thought i'd clean her for once.. not done that since november and she was looking a little sorry for herself :(
then it was a nice day, so out with the engine.. again.. (many thanks to Justin and his mate for the crane! :D)
timed it at less than 1hr 30 to remove
sump off...
bit of a late update...
beautiful! :D :D :D :D
love how the mk2 starts so quickly!
mk1s took a bit more time :? (ignore the f****ed box)
until it came to giving it some beans :(
1st and 2nd... doesnt feel quick :(
bottom end still fooked.. great
so I ignored the engine for a while...
Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread
on those radiators, what the white thing between the 2 hose connections? Looks like its blanked off (for a fan switch?) - don't think mine has one...
