Re: My mk1 track car blog
ask on c16v - couple lads breaking valvers over there
what's the rundown on your electrics in the end? what gauges have you gotten working? ecu fine? (number?)
Am I right in thinking the downstream lambda is only required to test if the cat is working correctly? It has no bearing on fueling or anything else?
(on a ph1 172)
clutch changes aren't bad on them...(and they'd be almost the same as doing an RSi clutch)
steering racks don't usually break; play in the steering is usually caused by the column and can be welded up for £not much
Valver's share the same track with all 'lower' clios - only the williams was...
odd project :o... why?
in that case the mk2 gauge gets its signal from the ecu, not sure if its the same readings as the sendor itself gives
if you have 1 wire from the gauge that is the signal wire, a good way to check it just ground it and see if the gauge shoots up to max
just to add, the resistance reading from the mk1 unit seems to be within tolerance of the quotes mk2 figures, so it could be viable?
the 2 pins on the mk1 sensor do the coolant warning light and the analog gauge... the sensor earths itself, so no need for an earth wire (but also means you can't...
the temperature sender has 3 wires, a black (earth, via the ecu), white and cream
the white gives the resistance reading but it goes straight to the ecu. The cream wire goes to the plug and it *I assume* operates a coolant warning light? though I'm not sure
if it helps, I'm running a 172...
new plan:
attach the mk1 sensor here! :D
plan is to braise a suitable nut onto thermostat housing and then drill a hole through... sorted?
kinda like how you can attach a lambda to an exhaust pipe
when wired up to the coilpack normally, it reads half?
have you connected both signal wires to the rev counter?
I've not been able to test mine cause my engine is still MIA :(
not sure if the diodes work... but the multimeter suggests it *should* work
used some N4004 diodes - can get them from maplin
but, re: the temp gauge... it works.. but it will be wrong, as the ECU sends voltage over it as well...
I'm looking in to plumbing in the mk1 coolant temp sensor to...
...thinking about it, I've gone and added 12v to the white wire from the ecu to the coolant sensor... this must be throwing off the ECU for the resistance reading from the sensor?
such a wealth of knowlege :D
Got the 12v constant on both relays and both the ecu signal wires are 12V with the ignition on (temp sensor removed) - both outputs are 0v though
nothing with the ignition off either
*sigh* fix one thing break another! :D
was just gonna say something about the fan
I removed all the loom before realised I'd forgotten to test the fan! so I've just plugged it all back in again and now I get no voltage to the fan... which means it wont be on... which is good
In theory, if i bridge the white and black wires from the...
did some more work on the loom today
got my rev counter wired in - no pics of the mods, it was just a couple of (badly) soldered diodes :D
and got my coolant gauge working! :D
I spliced into the white signal wire as Beanie suggested, but it turns out the problem was either the sensor or the...
