it's a valver shell atleast, you can tell by the bolt in slam panel
is it not an F3P 1.8 8v mpi? I heard nick hill is a big fan of those engines and had converted a few...?
that's the plan! ive dummy assembled it to see how it all goes together and it seems fine!
will take it all apart again, clean, oil and torque up!
if they're stretch bolts, whats the allowed length?
i thought the downstream lambda was only there to check on the cat.
if you've had poor performance since the cambelt change.. was it done correctly? they're not meant to be done with tippex, you need all the locking tools etc
maybe not at all - it seems piston rings are renault only, and very expensive :(
I'm taking them to an engineering place tomorrow as my final option, then its on to a new block!
not happy :dapprove:
if piston rings are really expensive (£500) - then that takes them out of the equation
Can i not just use piston rings from engine #1 with crankcase #1 and the crank/rods/pistons from #2?
would it *need* to be honed, as it was working perfectly (compression wise) when i took it apart!!
if...
engine out.. again  - neighbours must think i do it for fun
heres some pics of the bores - the flash accentuates everything (e.g. the hone marks) but you can clearly see where a piston/ring has 'rusted' to the bore - or am i miles off?
building up a...
i've not properly put it on yet, was waiting for the ties (which have arrived now)
cheers for the water suggestion!
fuel_slut, I'm gonna take my chances with it, i've seen a few done recently and they all still look ok and seem to hold the heat in
started to wrap my manifold to protect the steering rack/pipes and brake lines
didn't realise how much it would take, gonna use about 30' i reckon, just waiting on some metal cable ties now
I've not taken it out yet - you lot said i should do it in the car! :p
sussex is being s**t as usual with gale force winds, so i'm not doing it today! :(
*needs to move*
i've not touched it, and as far as i'm aware its not had anything done
it's said to be low milage though. the hone marks arent that apparent when you look at them (same as those piston marks) - the camera seems to pick them up very well though (in macro mode though)
I think I see the problem
pics from various cylinders (click for proper size):
I must admit, i didn't notice these marks until i actually viewed the pics
looks like the engine had been left standing and not locked at TDC, meaning it started to rust? or is that completely wrong...
oh sweet
saw your cup with the huge stickers on and just dived for cover really! :D - doesnt help that my car had never been driven properly after its rebuild for 8 months :D (I assume you were on at 4:30 too?)
i wasn't keen on that corner either, some were taking it flat out in 4th - i...
The head was fine on my old BE
and just going on the compression tests. my old BE made 195 and this one makes 160ish. put a drop of oil in and it rises to 200 - this wouldnt happen if the head gasket or valve stem seals etc were at fault, would it?
