Thanks for the reply Gaz, I'd managed to find a thread relating to the very same noise. Glad it's nothing to worry about. Next I've to try discover the source of a metallic 'ting' noise I can hear from within the dash when driving over rough surfaces. :D

Collected my 172 today and I've noticed that when holding in the clutch and selecting 1st gear I can hear and feel a clunk. It's not very loud but definately noticeable and happens 8 out of 10 times. Any idea what may be causing this. Other gears seem to be ok.

Is it possible to connect a mp3 player to the standard HU that I have in my 172? I also have the 6 disc changer under the passenger seat. The mp3 player has a 3.5mm line out connection.

No cruise control or ESP in my 172, it's the one thing I'll miss from the C2 VTR

I chose the 172 because it was cheap enough now to match my budget :D

I have my doubts that they actually allowed Ben Collins (Stig) to drive the F1 car as I'm told that they quite often dress other drivers as the Stig if required by the manufacturer providing the car for testing.

The Top Gear dvd given free on the cover of Top Gear magazine this month is quite good. The entire lap of the TG circuit by the Renault F1 driven by the Stig is shown from the onboard camera.

I'n not sure if you've already viewed the thread regarding this months Evo magazine? If not then go out and buy it as it has a article dedicated to buying a secondhand 172 and what to look for.

Hello and welcome from another newbie from SSC :)

I have used a Blaupunkt DAB 53 for the past 2.5 years and have been very happy with it. Signal quality is not bad but not always great using a glass mount aerial but I will get a proper aerial fitted onto the 172.

Re: Discovered my 172 is a Import Ah well all that remains is to wait till Saturday and actually collect it :) Window chip has now been fixed, I'll be interested to see how good a job injecting the chip has actually done.
