Compression was down on 2cyl before the day began, lol. It would not hold idle on cold start for around 30 secs...then would struggle too. Used to smoke like anything (had a fresh cyl head on it), lol. Think it ran low on oil, temp shot up and there it went....good riddance I guess lol.

Yeah, its the ghey center section, too big for the tunnel where it goes over the rear axle, so it rattles on the chassis :dead:

Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project Well, another Oulton down yesterday without any major problems. Coolant temperature gauge has stopped working but the wire has come off the sensor, so easy fix really. The track dried out nicely, and then got slippery again towards the end of the day...

Probably yes :( Disconnect the battery, undo the 3x 16mms holding the starter in place and take it out the gap. Sort the pin, connect the solenoid wire before putting it back into place, then bolt it all back together....sorted ;)

Unfortunately its alot of work to put a Ph1 throttle body on a Ph2 inlet, requires drilling a hole and tapping a thread IIRC. You cant just put the ph1 inlet on either as the breather plate on the top of the rocker cover is different also, and im not sure if they are interchangeable (dont think...

Easiest way I found is put your hand in flat, under the manifold but on top of the starter from the gearbox side....you will be able to feel the little spade connector then and hopefully wiggle the wire back onto it!

Yes, that wire is the only thing linking your turn of the key in the barrel to the starter motor!

thats the starter solenoid wire! Goes from your key barrel to there, and engages the motor. It goes onto a spade connector on the top of the starter motor solenoid, bit fiddly but is doable with a bit of patience. You can see the spade pin on here...

Yeah they dont require much current.....the starter draws ALOT of amps

Have you got a multi meter you can test the battery with? definitely sounds like battery has given up

Did you say you changed the battery? Check the main power feed crimp that goes to the starter motor itself too. BTW if you need to take it off, it does come out of the top, I got some pics of it coming out through the top when I did mine ;)

Buy the stud from renault, they are supposed to be replaced if the pulley is removed anyway apparently. Considering they have never had a pulley on I guess they leave it out to make sure you put a new one in.
