Had this problem for more than a year, but not a major issue so not really bothered throwing money at it.
Hopefully if the video works it should show it all. Trip computer shows miles, then I switch it off, then start it again. You can see the needles come back below zero, vibrate for a bit...
Got one a few weeks ago, not blown away but pretty impressed. Camera and video are awesome
however.... I wasn't expecting iphone levels of apps to be available, but some would be nice!
Black 197 about to turn into the car park for Westfield shopping cente in Derby, about lunch time today. I was in an Iceburg 172, waved and I think you returned!
Anyone on here?
They are solid mate. Used quite a fast setting 2 part araldite, so I could shift them around and position a bit for the first 10 mins, but then should be strong.
I've not driven it yet but checked this morning and fit is still as in the pic and they do seem really solid. I did use quite a lot...
kevin.s makes them out of fibreglass, he's posted a how to here...

...but I bought mine from him, as I have neither the skill nor the patience to do it! He has sold a few on here before, keep an eye out on the parts...
thats what I'd read on here, so I didn't use it to fill with.
but if its a breather then why does it have a plastic cover that closes it off? and as I said in the OP, it would make much more sense to fill at this point until oil came out the other.
or maybe its because I'm an engineer and i'm...
obviously saturday 21st March is Clio 172 gearbox oil change day in Derby ;)
can the city council please let me know when "change brake fluid" day is please?
Changed the gearbox oil today, followed some instructions i'd found on here. But when i took the airbox off i noticed a little pipe with a plastic filler and cover on the top of the gearbox. The guide said to fill through the butterfly plug half way down until oil starts to drain out of it...
I did this last night and the driving position is much improved!
I do have a couple of concerns though.
I think the plastic parts are there to centralise the stud as it goes through the hole in the floor. So there is a risk that if the seats not central, then the nut on the bottom may not...
I'm getting through about an expansion tanks worth of coolant per month... is this normal?
No sign of water in oil (or vice versa), it's not overheating, no sign of leaks on driveway, doesn't smoke from what I can tell in the mirrors and it seems to be running ok?!!.....
Any common probs to check?
Yeah, sorry Point8 but I forgot to put down that the tracking has been done a few times, and all the wheels have been balanced with the new tyres.
On my car I have a short stub axle coming straight out of the gearbox on the drivers side, then there is a bearing (the intermediate one I talk...
As I said in the post that Linsen refers to, changing the engine mounts made the noise a million times better... but I could still just about feel it. When you changed the driveshaft on the drivers side did you change the intermediate bearing on the shaft? I still strongly suspect it is...
Rear gear box mount sounds to me like a description of the dogbone mount (although its more like a link than a mount). Pick a new OE one up on monday, hopefully fitted that evening.
Just so we understand one another there are four engine mounts on the 172 engine, top right (can be seen with...
Some photos. Looks ok from the top
On the bottom though
the lower mount looked ok to be honest, but I changed it anyway.
do you mean the dogbone mount? I think I'm going to change that too, because of the way the mount above seems to have failed (with the engine moving front to back...
I'll post some photos up in the next few days.
It's improved to the point were I'm thinking about track days!! Perhaps even the 'Ring....
2 years, hundreds of pounds, hours of fiddling, 3 garages opinions, and it turned out to be £60 worth of engine mounts
Fitted the engine mounts in a couple of hours. The noise is all but gone!!
I'm not saying it's completely fixed, you can still just about make it out, but it is much, much better.
I still suspect something drivetrain so I'm going to do the intermediate bearing anyway whilst the driveshaft is...
No, I've not checked the dampers and yep, my suspension setup is completely standard, except for the strut top washers mod.
If I can fix the cornering noise, then I'll give a track day a go, then I'll try and justify Eibachs!
I'm picking up the engine mounts tonight, and fitting by the end of the week, so I'll let you know if that fixes it.
I've already had new driveshafts fitted (both sides) so just to finish off that possibility I'm going to fit a new intermediate bearing (the one that sits in the middle of the...
keep me posted.
I'm fitting the engine mounts next week, so I'll let you know if that fixes it
a couple of the others afflicted below...

Same as mine... it's the reason I don't want to do a track day :-(
We are not the only ones either, at least three others with the same...
Left hand corners only, have to be pushing it a bit. There is a list of parts I've replaced trying to fix it, with no luck.
Next port of call for me is...
Jimzy (another CS member) and I are both in Derby centre, add another two to the growing Derby RS community!
Jimzy has a '54 182 in Black/Gold with cup packs (**54HHR) and mines an Iceburg '02 172 (**02CZH).
I've seen a load around recently, I'll start waving then....
Exhaust arrived from K-tec in super quick time.
I fitted it myself this afternoon in two hours, without any problems! All you need is standard exhaust paste for the joins.
Its sitting perfectly, no knocking, and sounds sweet! No rasping that I can hear, which have been a few comments I've read...
