    Stereo Questions

Adding an amp would be a good step, I am not a big fan of Sony - dont worry most distort at about hal volume anyway. If you add an amp, you dont even need to have it set to play really loud, it will just supply more power to the speakers, thus giving more headroom and a considerably better...

    Amp for 6x9’s

    Much better choice mate.

    Amp for 6x9’s

Seriously mate, the Kenwood would be the best bet if you arent interested in the PG one. AS for the PG only kicking out 35 WRMS, ignore that IME of yank amps you are looking at least 20% more than that figure, whereas the Kenwood one is likely to be about 20% less than the quoted! I wouldnt...

    Amp for 6x9’s

I would seriously go for the PG one on eBay mate... But if you have to buy brand new etc, then I would take the Kenwood. If you have 4.5v pre-outs on your HU it is clearly decent, so a decent amplifier would do it more justice...hence the PG one. Scott

    Amp for 6x9’s

My thoughts exactly, I know Kenwood overestimate...with the exception of Alpine and the Americans I think most brands seem to.... I would always take one of the yank ones though, they arent that much more but are a heck of a lot better! I know of a Genesis Stereo 60 going cheap too...but I...

    Amp for 6x9’s

Personally I prefer the Kenwood to the T series Alpine, which sort of leads into the suggestion of having a listen... the Rockford would be a great amp, especially for some Kicker 6x9s. However, if you are quick this would be an excellent choice too...

    More ICE Questions!!!

You can buy the surround from Halfords (about £10) Sony do make MP3 units, but if you have an Alpine CD Changer it will only work with an Alpine HU, who coincidentally have just released an MP3 head unit...it will also work fine with the standard cable (or do you mean the remote control?? - if...

    sound deadening

A cheapo alternative to Dynamat (you probably dont want to hear this mate...) is a lovely thing called Marley Sealant tape, available from B&Q (and all good DIY stores ) does exactly the same but weighs and costs a lot less.... Scott

    ICE components

As the ICEman says there are loads out there, it depends what you want to spend to replace them and also what you hope to achieve. I have ordered some Focal 136k 5" components and they are a tad good....it was close between them and JL XR525CS, but the Focal were £100 less...so won on that! I...

    What Sub

If the only thing needed to be run off the amp is the sub, then the world is your oyster my friend. For £350 (ish) you could get a JL Audio 10W3 (plus box if bought from the right place) and a Rockford POwer 200.1. Make sure you get the Dual 2 Ohm Voice Coil version and you can run the amp...

    Negative and positive

If you know which of the cables connected to which terminal on the speaker then you can find out, though surely if this was the case the speaker would be labelled? Take 2 runs of cable and attach them to the speaker terminals (one to each), then take a 9V battery (the square one) and touch...

    Seats

Sounds nice....does he do all seats - as in front and rear?? If so its a bloody good deal I must admit I thought the seats did look different, but the piccies I have seen made the Willy ones look a bit pants...guess not though...right mission to find the car continues!

    FAO Luke B. - Subs

Huets are a great place...very helpful too. I am sure you could find a dealer more local than them though.... If you are interested in optimising space, then AutoAcoustics do a moulded box for the boot...but it still seems quite large...IIRC it was pretty ideally suited to the W3/W6 sub...

    Seats

Cheers guys...it has been ages since I drove a Willy and couldnt really remember. Looking at different pics they looked like they had very little support compared to the 16v ones (they look different to me, but could be the same...I think!) Ill take your word for it.

    FAO Luke B. - Subs

...and another thing, you mentioned the W3 subs, they are very similar to the W6 but need bigger boxes and can handle less power, sonically very similar, but not quite as refined, in the right setup I actually reckon they may have a bit more punch to them.... You also say you are owrried...

    FAO Luke B. - Subs

I was going to point you in the direction of JLs site....but you found it anyway! As for the Dual 6 question, you have basically answered it yourself it can be advantageous for high SPL to use a Dual 2 Ohm with a bridged amp on each voice coil - obviously lots of power, but also lots of...

    FAO Luke B. - Subs

Carl, it depends on how you wire the subs up. Dual 4 ohm coils can deliver either a 2, 4 or 8 ohm load to an amp. If you are after loads of volume and not the most quality, go for a 4 ohm load, good compromise is the 4 ohm load. Many amps will not be happy about a 2 ohm load bridged, as the...

    Seats

I am considering a Williams as my next "sensible" car, but having looked at several piccies of the interior - the seats look, well a bit crap to be honest. They do not seem to have anything like the kind of support that the 16v seats offer - i.e. no supports for your hips and side of leg...

    Blaupunkt Nav Unit

    1) Never used it so dont know, Blaupunkt tend to be good quality and well priced units, but the controls can be a bit flimsy. 2) Dunno, sorry, dont have a 172 3) It will involve a lot of work..Sony and Kenwood provide adaptors for converting steering wheel remotes, but I dont think...

    how do u remove...

Been a long time since I fiddled with them, but there could be a bolt at the back holding them in place.....reach around and have a feel - otherwise pop down to a friendly dealer and ask them to take it out for you...or even Renaul themselves. I assume you have looked for any obvious holes on...

    FAO Luke B. - Subs

If you wanna save space, I have heard Diamond Audio M5 series subs working very well in a Clio.... smaller box than the W6 too.... If you can afford it the W7 is the best, but strange as it may sound, the Dual Mono isnt really upto the task...need the JL 500/1 more. Before you say they have...

    speakers recommendations.

Well yes Ben, I should imagine they would help along that issue a tad!!! My suggestion was merely for the situation ay hand...hope it is of some use. Expensive system for Williams on the way this way...just need the car now! Scott

    speakers recommendations.

2 Way speakers have the big woofer bit and a tweeter, 3 way have an extra "super-tweeter", which covers higher frequency. 3 Way may be best for the front of the car, but ony bother with 2 way in the back. The Infinty are good, nice detail, but not exactly the last word in bass.... I...

    ICE buffs, speaker cable balancing

Naim fans do indeed have there own following, I love the sound and havent really found much which competes... Fantastic kit, looking forward to owning their top line kit...of an F355. Hmm same money, think ill take the car... BGen J, erm, speaker and power cables running side by side is a...

    Rockford cables

Any particular reason you need Rockford stuff?? There really isnt much difference between most cables nowadays and you can get Phoenix Gold stuff from Halfords... If you can live with that then go for it, otherwise you will need to contact a local specialist dealer. Scott

    I don’t get it

Should explain a few things...not necessarily the drop in volume... However, yes you can now turn the gain up to accomodate the cleaner signal path. Use the method I outlined above and you should be well on the way to a decent sound. Scott

    Crap Brakes

A decent upgrade are available from Nick Hill at Hill Power (www.hillpower.co.uk) Tarox brakes etc....bloody excellent by all accounts and not THAT expensive. £260 approx including fitting if you have pads and discs fitted at the same time...trust me you will be amazed at the ability of them...

    WILL THIS WORK

It will work fine...but why ruin the handling and ride of a really great car...if its just aesthetically, then dont bother - spend the cash on petrol. If its a handling issue, think of ways of improving it, rather than ruining it...anti-roll bar, better dampers (Eibach, Bilstein) or different...

    Stainless Steel Exhaust

If your car runs well, and is efficient it may even pass an MOT. A few friends of mine have successfully passed MOTs with the de-cat pipe still in place...ok, its rare, but it may happen.
