This was also my problem as I thought to opt for the same plumbing of water cooling for my turbo.
I think maybe cooling it from the inlet hose to the heater matrix by extending the inlet hose and letting it pass through the turbo first then into heater matrix as intended? Can somone confirm this?
Hi mate, Im building my own 172 cup turbo and im just wondering where and how you plumbed in and routed your water feed to the turbo?
You using the standard valeo clutch or going uprated as thats my next dilema as if i can save my self some ££££ i wont buy it.
Pete
Im not 100% sure but Im guessing bottom pipe to heater matrix is inlet and upper is outlet so i just need to T off from each one to turbo inlet and outlet?
Thanks
Do I splice into top pipe that goes to heater matrix and T-piece off into the water inlet on the turbo then splice into lower pipe and T off into water outlet on the turbo? This is the part that im abit confused about.
Pete
Ahh good, thanks fella.
Since the turbo is water cooled i wanted to try use existing cooling system to cool it. I thought that I might be able to plumb a pipe from the thermostat return line into turbo and another from turbo back to header tank? Would the flow be sufficient enough? and also...
Im building my own 172 turbo using a gt28rs and im coming near to the end of it all now, to prime my turbo am I right in the following;
squirt a little bit of oil into the oil feed and spin turbine by hand and connect oil feed up
disconnect coil pack
fuel pump relays removed
return pipe...
Very good post Steve!
Im putting together my own turbo build and its costing me nowhere near to what the ktec or engine dynamics are charging so I can second that there are great bargains to be had if you know where to look.
Im using a garrett gt28rs and only wanting to push 230hp on standard...
Cheers Jord! Il get one tigged in and il try have a look around the back of my block to see where i can brace the down pipe as the twist might see the studs snapped.
Any idea if my oil return size and also .8mm restriction in feed would suffice?
Cheers mate, would a 4inch flexi suffice? its small and im noit sure it would give enough flex being so short. I could squeeze and get a 6inch one tigged in at a push!
Using a power flex dog bone mount at the minute and both gearbox and big engine mount are standard but Ive shimmed behind the standard engine mount rubber and black casing to make it somewhat very stiff.
Can i get away with using stronger competition engine mounts to stop the engine from kicking back as much whe coming on/off throttle to stop turbo studs snapping?
My other option would be to find a suitable 6'' flexi thats fully stainless so i dont have to braize my decat to weld in a non...
