Well, I have fitted a 2000hp quad turboed diesel engine to a Nova...... :D
Nahh, car stuff is just a hobby. Although I do wonder if i should have done automotive engineering or something. Still, networking = £££ ;)
Working on a channel/port/tube whatever removing machining burrs, smoothing tight/poor flowing bends, matching manifolds to the head etc.
All just to give less restriction to the flow of gas in and out of the engine.
1.7 Turbo out of a Volvo 440 turbo (the used renault engines)
120bhp and 130ft lbs standard. 200bhp should be resonable with a bit of work.
Its somewhere in for sale section, gone down a few pages now.
Yep, big end shells = big end bearings.
I think they were £20 for a Nova GTE I did a rebuild on. Sump and gubbins needs to be removed to change them. Did them while we were reringing it.
Check the mains while its all in bits, but the crank needs to be dropped on most engines to change them...
Well maybe dismissing 200K was a bit harsh.
Was working on a 155K 2.0 laguna the other day, seems fine bar needing valve clearances doing. Bet the big end shells arent that great though.
150K+ on a well maintained, well run (not too many shot journeys) engine is doable.
How many miles has...
Headwork is always a good place for gains on most cars. Just depends on the quality of the work. Judging from comments about Hill Power this should be good.
1.4 renault bottom end lasting 200,000 miles.... hmmm :o
If oil flow and pressure is ok theres really not a lot that wears or goes...
Tubular stainless steel manifolds are less likely to have problems. Just be carefull with the wrapping to avoid hotspots (as said above).
Id still paint stainless as well.
Colour affects heat absobtion and disipation.
Black - absorb and disipate heat better
Silver - absorb and disipate heat worse
Generally its best to use a paint and the wrap. Wrap alone will often lead to premature corrosion anyway.
Wrapping a cast manifold will often lead to it cracking...
310cc would be about 248bhp, not big enough for what you want.
I guess youre using programmable management, so you need to find out what resistance injectors it drives (high {16ohm} or low {4ohm}). Not sure about renault, but most injectors have a commonish fitment, so finding a set of...
Nicks post looks just fine to me.
Over advanced ignition is the main factor in knock (End gas autoignition).
A higher octane fuel should allow you to advance the ignition closer to MBT, and hence more torque, so more power.
Gains... well, yeah not much in it on a standardish motor, even...
Anyone had troubles with cracking round the drillings?
My ebc turbo groove discs are very good, chose pagid pads though as the bad reports about EBC seem to be about the greenstuff pads.
Hehe, I was just being pedantic in the first place.
But, youve made me learn a bit more about ignition systems....
ChrisB - The message board wanderer... damn i need a new car.
Saw a demo thing at a service station on the way to a vaux meet.
Looked good for the multi electrode plugs as it seemed to fire all of them in one cycle rather than the normal one.
But, the spark did look duller than just the single normal spark. You can just get energy from nowhere. The bit...
Nahh you wanna buy my 1.7 Turbo engine... ;)
Supprised noone is that interested, either as a full conversion, or maybe the head with all the inlet and turbo gubbins will bolt onto a 1.4.
Come on..... battery on a multimeter measures say 12V. Connect a resistor in series with the positive measuring lead, PD is still 12V. To alter voltage you need to use a _potential divider_, a simple resistor in series with a voltage source just acts as a current limiting resistor.
The...
A coil, which can be thought of as a transformer has a turn ratio. That is the ratio between the number of turns on the primary windings verses the secondary windings.

A coil ratio of 100 times would give 100 times...
Ionising current is proportional to cylinder pressure. Voltage is taken as somewhat fixed (coil turn ratio).
Still, I wouldnt bother. Allthough the demonstration nicely shows that multi elctrode plugs only spark on one electrode not all of them at the same time like some people think...
Yeah thats the one. Got broken into. :@
Thought you might have been in there. ;)
Been driving a 1.1 R5 for 3 weeks, damn being a passenger in a GTE feels quick. Im gonna have to buy a car soon or ill go crazy.
Thanks for the info.
Not seen many 16Vs about, are they uncommon?
Chargecooler is a good idea. Although I do have an Evo 6 intercooler sitting in the garage that would be a shame to not use.
Are there any uprated clutchs availiable? Just had a new standard one on it as the old one didnt...
