Success followed by immediate failure!
Using a lump hammer, i managed to get the disc off after much hammering.
I then went to bolt the caliper back on (using the correct torque setting of 60nm), and promptly stripped the caliper thread.
Looks like a new caliper may be needed.
So much for a...
Thanks for this - I forgot to mention that the reason I am changing the discs is due to a knackered bearing, caused by... a lack of spacers! The side with the knackered bearing came off easily.
I have been reading up elsewhere, and some people suggest a sledgehammer...
Hi,
So I thought i'd get my hands dirty and have a go at changing my rear discs / pads.
This has not gone as smoothly as I have hoped, and I've had to give up for the day with my car still on stilts.
One disc slid right off, the other will not budge.. i've tried:
Hammer
Bigger hammer
lots...
Thank you for the reply, and sorry for the late response!
So, should this slot into the top side of the white plugs? It's hard to see from underneath the glovebox a place where the relay could be located.
Please see the views I have of the UCH from within the car. Any ideas where it should go...
Hi,
I have found a relay with the reference 77 00 414 484 in the passenger footwell of my clio. I think it has come from the UCH, but cannot see from underneath the glvoebox where it would slot in.
The only fault that i've noticed that may be related to this missing relay are the fog...
Well. My exhaust just snapped where the crack was (see photo). Strapped it up and driven 40km with my car sounding like a panzer tank.
So I have a new problem - France is useless, and i cannot get a hold of this exhaust fitting kit until the middle of next week as none of the garages (tried 3)...
I don't suppose you have a Renault part number for the fitting kit do you? It would save me trying to explain it in French (waving my arms about and pointing). Thanks
Thanks Fred, I'll give it ago this weekend.
Alternatively, I have a KTR decat pipe i could put on instead (http://www.k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=2034&appid=2).
I'm scared to do this as it is already bloody noisy with a KTEC supersports stealth - how much worse do you think it would...
Hi,
The other day i rolled over a curb coming out of a car park. It was dark and turned out to be bigger than expected - my mistake.
I've cracked what i believe to be where the manifold connects to the cat - please see photo below.
I've been told by a local mechanic that he can weld this...
Thanks for the advice, unfortunately i cannot take it to a specialist around here to check these things, and i'm going to struggle explaining this in French. I'll see what i can do..
Thanks!
Hi,
For a while, I have noticed that my 172 Cup performs much better on some days (or driving sessions) than others. Now, i understand that the weather can make a difference - sure, when it is moist, and after rainfalls the car often performs wonderfully. However, the difference seems to be too...
Hi,
Time for an oil change, and I may have overdone it with the oil. Having little choice in quality, ester oils in my area, I found a small garage that enters cars into rallies, who have provided me with 6 litres of:
Motul 300V Le Mans, Ester, 20W60 oil
This was not cheap - this may be a bit...
She's doing alright! Currently at the Renault dealership having the cambelts, timing belts, pump, dephaser, etc. etc. done, as i've now hit 72,000 (daily driver). Unfortunately in France, this means a bill of around 1,200.. i'll find out the damage tomorrow!
Apart from that the car's sweet - i...
Hi,
I'm in France, and (think) i have found some sportlines from a French website, that will save me shipping them from the UK.
Can somebody please advise if these are correct?
Car is a 172 Cup
Reference number: E20-75-001-03-22

I'll try and get some better quality ones this weekend. Mine is now in full winter mode - tyres and broken number plate/bumper (no point fixing that until the Spring...!)
bomber - will you be over for the biking? Maybe see you up the hill / on the road!
Ghm - its a bit of a grey area - car is insured by Axa France, who cover UK registered cars. The car still has its road tax and MOT from the UK (runs out next year). At this point, i'll either need to re-register...
Snow has arrived over here, which means a lot of fun to be had!
Snow tires were put on last week, and so I took full advantage of the empty roads at 7am Saturday morning up to the mountain (around 30 odd hairpins :)
Mine is getting garaged for the winter. But then these are the conditions i drive to work in most days as of December... the 1.4 with snow tires all round is a better option for this time of year :)
Hi,
I've done a search on this, and cannot find a definitive answer.
I need to buy new rear shocks for my 172 Cup - is there any different in Cup rear shocks, to standard 172 rear shocks? If so, does anyone have part number please?
Thanks!
Yes they are on the original Turini's - the tyre is also marked on the inside.
I'll take it into Renault on Thursday to see what they think..
Thanks :)
That's what i thought.. I had a mechanic lift it up (which is when we saw the rubbing) and everything seemed to be in order with the wheels/suspension, so it does seem strange.
Hi,
My 172 Cup is standard in terms of suspension/wheels/tires, however i noticed some pretty bad rubbing of the inside of the rear tyres (see photo below):
Would spacers such as these solve the issue? Would it be better to add spacers on all four wheels, or just the rear two?
Thanks...
I live in France by the Swiss border - in the village i'm in alone we have a 172 cup and a Trophy, and i've seen a fair few other on my drive to work. That said, French are much keener on economical cars, so diesels and Twingo's are really common.
