‘Bonnie Blue’ The RB 182

Have you looked at a particular series?

We are looking to do the Birkett at Silvo. As a trio for some endurance fun.

Unlikely I’d commit to a whole season as I’ve done that all before and found it stressful. So it would just be cherry picked events.

And hopefully some historic stuff with my pal. Hoping to get on the Goodwood stuff if poss. (Long term plan).

Modern stuff doesn’t really interest me.

One of my best pals has a few of Jim Clark’s old cars (my hero) amongst other cool metal. And I may be getting a little go in some of that stuff there. Which tbh, would be something enormously special in my book. I’ll be smiling for weeks. Proper life achievement stuff driving Clark’s car in my eyes. Atleast.

Just a side note for anyone looking at hoses

Mtec (mtc) fit like a glove and don’t really feel any different to samco’s I’ve got on other stuff.

Can use the pre assembly pic above for reference as they don’t come with instructions as such.

Also worth noting that the two ‘unions’ that unclip for the firewall/bulkhead heater matrix, STAY ON unlike some others where you remove them.

Update.

Off to Spa and then the Ring next weekend for a week.

Have been dailying the Clio and generally using it as much as possible and varied driving. Car feels great so fingers crossed.....

Hopefully it'll survive Spa.... lol. Long, fast track. 🫣 Fast group of lads I'm going with as well.

Little write up of the trip.

All involved (4) had a nightmare leading up to this trip. My pal blew his charged vx220 up, my other pals appendix burst, the clio was dicking me around and lastly another pal had some personal issues. So it was nearly a non starter.

Me and the boys left mine on the morning of the 25th May (down the vx220), and headed to Spa (via ferry because breakfast), completely forgetting it was a bank holiday weekend. So the ferry boarding was… a s**t show. But, that said, it didn’t detract from our smiles.

Arrived to the place I’d booked nearby the circuit, which turned out to be superb!

The trackday!

GoldTrack. Highly recommend.

None of us had ever done Spa before, but I can confirm that it 1000% lives up to the hype. There’s a real… ‘feeling’ about the place. It’s special.

We were extremely lucky as the weather the days leading up and thereafter can only be described as ‘monsoon’. Bone try for us though!

It was evident immediately that I’d brought a plastic Ryan air knife to a Gun Fight. The paddock was probably 80+% race cars, and the road cars were gt2’s, 3’s and a s**t load of hyper cars. Limited run Ferrari FXX’s and FXX-K’s etc. We decided to kit up as we were one of few who weren’t and the pace was pretty hot.

I think I was maybe 1 of 3 or 4 cars under 400 bhp 😂 but the little clio scalped some serious machinery.

That said, WHAT A TRACK! The best I’ve driven in fact. The Clio, was hilariously underpowered, but we had a tonne of people coming up to us and commenting on it, I genuinely think I was having more fun than anyone out there bouncing Bonnie around on her door handles.

Car wasn’t without fault. I’m still having shifter issues. But managed to drive around it.
The car definitely needs more rotation from the rear and the front needs more camber. I have severe rubbing issues when carrying a passenger. Which has twatted my NSF entirely.

Other than that though, it was spot on! Eu Rouge was completely flat sticks. The Clio is magnificent through the Pouhon to Stavelot section. My favourite sector of any track I’ve driven. The little s**t box pretty much matched or surpassed anything through there. Which surprised a few including me.

All the boys were flying. We didn’t really ‘time’, but having reviewed a few of the laps, managed a 2:40 in the GT4 on 3 year old rooted road tyres and 2 up. 1.5+G measured as well.
Around a 3:09 in the clio, 2 up also.

Also, can confirm that redline pas fluid and running on the minimum has fixed my pas issues.

The ring….

Again, because we between us have just the one brain cell, we didn’t realise it was a bank holiday.

I’d already decided I wouldn’t lap the clio at the ring having ravaged her poor little spud pipe around spa, and not wanting to push my luck. That said, I’m glad I didn’t as the track was so busy it was a mess really and my NSF is completely cattle trucked.

I did a few laps with the others though, and all was good. Lots of social, lots of laughs. Lots of memories.

The sun came out, Bonnie’s aircon decided it didn’t want to aircon anymore. So the drive home in (according to the temp gauge) 27 degrees, was not pleasant 😂

Got home yesterday afternoon. And I’m completely knackered.

I like the i20 N. Not the best looker from the rear, but seemed a capable car. Such a shame Hyundai canned all the ICE N models for the UK market.

Yeah, it’s a very good car out of the box. Not my cup of tea. But no doubting its ability. Really good front end /turn in.
