1.2 16V Dynamique Oil

Ok, me and my dad changed the oil in my car a few months ago along with the filter. It had done 10k and we thought it would be a good idea to changethe oil as like a halfway point to the first service.

Anyways we used Castrol magnatec 10W40. I asked the bloke at halfords for the correct and best oil for my car and he said this is the one i want.

Was we right in buying this oil? Should I use it again and buy it and give to renault on the first service for them to use instead of there £5 a bottle stuff?

5w/40 is the best for the 1.2 16V, 10W/40 is far too thick!!!!

sh*t ya jokin fred! thats what renault was tryin to sell me 10w40 and halfords also said its 10w40. You really sure mate?

positive!!! i ran 10W/40 in mine, but it fooked the fuel consumption (Renault didnt know what it should have!!!)

i ran it on 0W40 mobil 1 for about 25000miles, ive just recently switched to comma 5W/40

Renault recommend 10w40 for the 1.2 16v, renault dealers used to supply elf 10w40 semi synthetic, now they supply some other stuff, motrio or something, still 10w40 for the 1.2. Any 10w40 semi/fully syn will be ok really.

Coolant just use renault stuff.

Acually Renault recommend 10w-40 semi-syn or 5w-40 fully syn.

Fully syn is dearer but better.

i changed mine first time round at 2000

mine just didnt run too well on the 10W40, switched to 5W40 and its still going stong at 62000miles!!!

Mine is coming up for 12k with the same oil it came with, should i change it or just wait until its going in for its 18k service?

Stick with the 10W40 or if you can afford it some 5W40 Fully..

Our Bulk oil is 10W40 Magnatec..

Our parts dept only sells Motrio to retail customers that come to the parts counter.. We very rarely use the Motrio oil in the workshop unless a customer specifies it...

However our parts dept do sell Drums of the stuff to the trade around Swindon.. ie some back street garages..

Mind you there are various grades of Motrio.. From the cheap Mineral type thru to "Fully Synthetic"... If you do decide to go the Motrio route then specify the "Fully Synthetic" stuff.. Although its unlikely to be POA Ester based..

Personnally I believe that service intervals are too long these days..

Therefore I have always changed my oil and filter every 6K/6months or so.... Lets face it it is small money for nice clean and uncontaminated oil..

Especially if journeys are short, stop Start etc...

Dunno, I just do the Job.. But I guess £75 wouldnt be unreasonable..

Less if you supplied your own oil though...

I Changed the oil in Louises 1.2 16v after about 9k miles it was mank, super black, and that is mainly long runs, with short runs it would be far worse.

Fiver for the filter and 15ish from renualt for the oil. 10w40, no probs using that.

18k is far far too long as said

i change mine every 5000 with 5/40 fully syn , when i drop the oil after 5000 miles it is very black !

btt, deffinately going for 5w40 fully synthetic in mine at the 18k service then but what shall i get, i thought castrol magnatec was the best, is it not?
