1.2 16v Engine

  Clio Sport 16v
Am i right in saying that any induction kit would give little bhp gains?
Just a friend of mine reckons that there are gains to be had, and the sound can be improved ALOT.

from past experience opening the airbox does the same to the sound lol but whats the negatives to opening the airbox? loss of bhp??
TBH i know its a 1.2 so bhp is no biggie anyway lol anyone solve the argument?

Thanks guys

yes, literally opening the airbox will leave your engine without proper filtration, (remember the car was designed with a airbox for a reason ;) )

an open induction kit will not offer any heat soak protection, so you wont gain any power, and could possibly loose some but it will sound alot better

i did an experiement a few years ago at Santa Pod where my 106 sxi ran an average 17.4 quarter mile with 16inch wheels and an open induction kit

aftera few runs i had my std air box with me so i fitted that and tried again, and my average dropped to 17 secs dead, so thats proof enough for me that open kits can cause less performance

Got an open pipercross filter on my 1.2. No gains in my opinion although does give a nice roar when you put your foot down :) a nice lil' touch if you have the cash but I would'nt go out of my way to buy another.

ooh one more thing. my friend reckons if you open the airbox but keep the filter in, no damage will be done?? im split on this lol

i cut my airbox in half, removed all the insides (its split into 2 chambers) so opened it into 1 big box, cut the hole that all the air comes in a bit bigger so it could flow more air and glued it together, fitted an HKS pannel filter and used a bigger cold air feed, it was the best setup ive used/saw on a 1.2 16v <2004 engine

in theory a decent induction kit would give a very small gain however you will find nearly all of them will make no noticable difference .
